From TVGUIDE 12/17-23 issue
As conspiracy theorist Sgt. John Munch of NBC's Law & Order:Special Victims Unit, Richard Belzer is pretty good at cracking cases. Bit the 63-year-old actor has yet to solve the mystery of the missing Munch. According to Belzer, his contract was reduced from 22 episodes to 13 this season without explanation. "I'm as mystified as the fans by the cutback," says Belzer, who originated the role on Homicide. SVU executive Neal Baer, who plans to feature the character in two episodes in January, insists Belzer "isn't going anywhere."

Thanks for posting this. I was gonna do it tonight, but ya beat me to it ;D I'm at a loss to even try to think why Belz was reduced to 13 episodes. The fact that he doesn't know is kind of troubling.

I think it's bad that Munch only get 13 eps, and what if they reduce them further and further, just to squeeze him out? Now I'm really pissed of.

I just don't get it myself. Munch and Fin really brought something to the show.

Fin & Terry: I am in total agreement with both of you. We all knew his time on the show was infrequent and where wondering what was going on. I had hoped it was Belzer's decision. I am completely flabbergasted by the situation.

How can they possibly reduce his contract without his consent? Thought that was the point of a contract in the first place.
And, if Wolf is doing this to add more of the "young Hollywood starlets" to the cast to attract more viewers, then he has another thing coming. Does he not realize how many viewers he will lose by reducing Belzer's role?

Does he not realize how many viewers he will lose by reducing Belzer's role? Tru, I thought this couldn't be done either. I feel sad inside. Belz kept this show going when it struggled that first year, first on Monday nights then on Friday nights in his old Homicide time slot. I know that why I started watching as did my family. We wanted to see how Belz did in his new location.
