Don't get me wrong. I like her too. I just can't figure out why. She's brash, unsympathetic and one-note. What about her makes her so likeable? I can't understand why I like her. Is it because the actress is likeable or is it because she left the show under such sad circumstances? Would we like her as much had she not left the show? I really like her, I do. I just can't figure out why. Any ideas?

Alex handles cases more with logic than emotion which makes her come off as unsympathetic.
There are some episodes were she gets emotional over a case and we get to see that she does actually care( ex- guilt).
Other reasons to like her are.
1. She is very intellegent and good at her job. 2. She tries her hardest to get justice for the victims. 3. She is can be very funny and has some great lines.
There are many reasons to like her, these are just some of the reasons why I like her.

Hi Kristin, Good day to you, I hope that your week is starting off well. Here are a few reasons why I (and several others may agree as well) like her: 1. She is beautiful. 2. She was the ADA on the show when it really became a hit. Stephanie joined the cast in the show's second season, and it really took off after the additions that year. 3. There were several important cases throughout her years as ADA. She had a connection with virtually everyone on the team, and they went through several cases and trying times together. Just my thoughts. Thanks again for asking, Kristin. Take care and have a great day today!

Hotaru and byrdman made some good points. I think also that some people may watch and say, "Hey, there's someone who I'd like to work with if I was in that situation." She's personable.

I think one of the main reasons that she earned the nickname "Ice Queen" was because she was very business like and rarely let emotions get the better of her. She kept her work and her personal thoughts separated.
I always wonder if it was because she always seemed to get into trouble when she went out of her way with a particular case. With "Guilt", she let emotions get involved, and she ended up breaking the law, and getting suspended. She could have very well been disbarred in the real world as well. Then in "Loss", she wanted to nail Zapata because no one else would, and ended up getting shot and put in Witness Protection.
It's an interesting concept. I loved Alex's character because she was never one to sit back and let someone dictate to her what to do and what not to do. And, SM is gorgeous.

I positively adore her. Always have. Stephanie March is one reason this show went into the top 10. The other reason would be the pairing of Richard Belzer with Ice-T. a match made in heaven Alex Cabot was just one h*ll of a good ADA. no doubt. I cried when she was shot and presumed dead. and was saddened that she was written out of the show. That episode was one of the best ever. and my sis and I rewatched it and cried again today. While I have grown to love and appreciate Diane Neal's portrayl of Casey Novak, I will always be an Alex Cabot fan ;D

While I have grown to love and appreciate Diane Neal's portrayl of Casey Novak, I will always be an Alex Cabot fan ;D Agree with that sentiment 100% I love Alex because she's intelligent, sophisticated and damn good at her job. She doesn't let people push her around and has a good sense of her own values and ideals. She believes in the necessity of the law but struggles with justice as society see's it vs. justice for the victim. I can't pinpoint it exactly but she's someone who I can look up to and aspire to be like, and lus Stephanie March is amazing.

Alex Cabot was the first! It is like when movies come out with sequal after sequal after sequal and it just gets worse as time goes on! But the first will always be your favorite, will always be the best of all time! timeless!

I like her precisely because she is an Ice Queen. She comes across as a real no-nonesense hardass, which is great for her kind of job. I always found it pretty unbelieveable when she lied about the search warrant in Guilt. I understand her motivation, but I couldn't imagine someone like her playing around with the law like that and very nearly getting herself disbarred.

Not to put any Casey fans down, but I always thought that Alex just...handled things better. That might just be me, however. I was introduced to this show at around the age of 5-6 and Alex was the one I was introduced to. Maybe it just a matter of she was what I was familiar with.
Again, I'm not trying to bash anyone that thinks Casey is better. Honestly, I think that Casey and Alex both had their strong moments and they both had their weak moments. I think that the way Casey was introduced to the show was not the best. Elliot apparently knew her from a softball league, but the way that she strolled into a crime scene of a unit that she's never worked with...That dissappointed me. To me, and others can feel free to argue this, I think that Alex was very to-the-point and professional. Sure, she was the "Ice Queen", but I think that was what made her a great prosecutor. Casey went around a lot of rules, and began with the unit-not learning their style of handling things- but introduced her own and pretty much forced it on them.
To sum it up, Alexandra Cabot was God's gift to prosecution, plain and simple.

Alex was a little softer on the introduction, though I wonder how many people remember the little "calling Uncle, who happens to be a Judge" in the very first episode, her own mini hoity toity moment. But one thing I don't know that the writers/execs were counting on was the pure hatred that arose in some people after Alex's exit. There were a group of people that we called Casey bashers, it was that bad. Obviously, Casey's introduction just made it that much easier for people to hate Casey. She was never done any favors.
Alex will always be SVU's "first" though, and therefore will always have a special place in viewer's hearts. I love watching Alex episodes, especially when she gets a decent story line. I started watching more for her and Casey than any other character.

I feel that Casey wasn't give the great storylines that Alex was either. After Season 6 the show changed direction and focus dramatically. I think that lead to less and less time for Casey and others.
I will always love Aex but will also always love Casey.

When Alex was pronounced "dead," and Casey just waltzed into the SVU scene, my 8/9 year old self decided that I wasn't going to watch anymore. I boycotted Casey. She annoyed me and she wasn't Alex. I honestly think, now, that Casey was a pretty good character. She wasn't completely evil and heinous like I tried to believe. I do think that if Alex was written out on a better note, and Casey came in like their going to bring the new ADA in, that I wouldn't have skipped like 4 or so years of SVU. Maybe I was being ridiculous, but you can't expect much more out of a child, can you?
