“DIRTY”
DETECTIVE SALIYAH “SUNNY” QADRI (GUEST STAR SHOHREH AGHDASHLOO) TEAMS UP WITH DETECTIVE OLIVIA BENSON (MARISKA HARGITAY) TO INVESTIGATE THE MURDER OF A DISTRICT ATTORNEY
Detective Saliyah “Sunny” Qadri (Aghdashloo) goes in search of Brooklyn District Attorney Page Ferguson, who she fears may be in danger. Qadri finds Ferguson just in time to witness her fall from the top of a parking garage. When Benson (Hargitay) arrives, she discovers that the crime scene has been tampered with. Benson turns to an old friend, Assistant U.S. Attorney Christine Danielson (guest star Gloria Reuben) for help. As the investigation progresses, Benson begins to question Ferguson’s suspicious past and Qadri’s involvement in the case.
Recap:
In the first couple minutes of the episode, we find out that DA Paige Fergusan has gone missing. Sunny rushes to Paige’s office and starts tosnoop look around her desk. Paige’s (I’m assuming) assistant has no idea where she went to. For some reason this part just makes me suspicious: Sunny (Aghdashloo) goes searching and is acting too worried, I mean, Paige could have had a bathroom emergency for all we know. Sunny calls the parking guy and asks if Paige’s car is still around. When parking guy says no, she hangs up and opens Paige’s desk drawer and finds…wait for it…Paige’s purse. Now, I don’t know about you, but Sunny really, I mean really knows her way around Paige’s desk.
The next thing we see is Sunny in her car talking to one of the OnStar guys asking about Paige’s GPS and her car. OnStar guy realizes that he’s invading a D.A’s privacy only to be interrupted when we get a close up of Paige’s car. DUN, DUN, DUUUNNN! Sunny runs out of her car and calls out for Paige. Sunny hears a sound but isn’t sure where it’s coming from until…she see’s Paige on the ledge of a roof and is suddenly falling to her death.
Next we seeButch …er…Detective Benson. She is talking to the ME and it doesn’t look good for Paige. Benson is told that the witness is up on the roof…wait! On the roof you say! Benson marches up there only to be caught by surprise – the witness is Detective Saliyah “Sunny” Qadri and she wants answers. Olivia nods happily, “Sure! Let’s go find us a perp!” Olivia and her new BFF skip their way back to the precinct. Fin is already there with a lead – seriously, these guys work fast – and find out that Paige was working on the Angel Rivera case.
Detectives learn that Paige received an unidentified call 10 minutes before her death, which explains why she left the building without her purse – so much for my bathroom theory. But they wonder which person Paige would trust and rush to meet late at night. TheBFF’s Detectives Benson and Qadri visit Rivera at Rikers Island. The interview doesn’t get the detectives very far, but Benson gets a call from investigators that leads her back to the autopsy. The autopsy shows that the cuts on Paige’s body were self-inflicted. Benson questions whether Paige sodomized herself with a knife and if she committed suicide. Sunny just can’t believe Paige would do that to herself.
Butch Benson thinks the crime scene was tampered with. She finds out Sunny had been two timing her with everybody’s favorite Assistant U.S. Attorney Christine Danielson and broke off their friendship stole surveillance footage from the crime scene. Sunny is arrested for obstruction and tampering with evidence. She admits to taking the tapes because she wanted to find out who her co-worker’s murder is (I’m cryin a river…). Benson interrogates Sunny because she thinks she killed Paige (That’s right! That’s why you’re the detective!).
Sunny ‘claims’ she just wanted to prove that “no one from [her] team is dirty.” She passes the polygraph test.
The murder Sunny thinks someone took Paige across state lines, tortured her, and threw her off the roof. The cause of death is still inconclusive, so they cannot prove if it was a suicide or murder, much to Sunny’s relief dismay. So it’s back to the drawing board for the former BFF’s. They contact another murder suspect (do any of you see a recurring theme here? Or is it just me?). She is a witness for another case that the dead DA was dealing with. The case also involved a man named Damien. Lakeisha’s story is holy, as does Damien’s and our not-so-honest Sunny. The detectives cannot prove murder without more evidence.
No evidencemeans Sunny is off the hook puts Damien or Lakeisha in the building Paige was thrown from. But wait! Benson has a bright idea! She thinks they waited in a heated car. How on earth did she come to that conclusion? Fin is flipping through better scripts footage when the three musketeer’s find…Paige’s snitch, Damien, driving Paige’s car the night of the incident. Say it ain’t soo!! (Sarcasm…gotta love it…)
When detectives reach Damien’s home they find him and Lakeisha dead on the floor. Aw…crap! More paper work for Benson. Fin finds a young boy who provides information about Damien and Lakeisha’s killer. He leads detectives to the murder weapon (this is where they recruit their detectives…). Paige Fergusan’s penknife was found in Lakeisha’s purse. Coincidence? Hmmm?
Detectives think someone is covering up Lakeisha and Damien’s dirty work. Ya think? I’m no detective but I smelt cover up way before the first commercial. At least I think that was cover up I smelt…
The new suspect is a male DA – exactly how many suspects is that now? His motive would have been killing Paige for drug money from the Rivera trial. Lover boy says he had a relationship with her for more than a year, but claims he never hurt her – oh sweetie…didn’t you read the corner’s report? He knows enough to set up a convincing suicide case.
Detectives Fin and Benson do more detective work and find that Rivera had a visitor the same day Lakeisha and Damien were killed. Gita, Rivera’s girlfriend. HOLD ON! WHO!Yes, our Latin lover boy had a loving girlfriend on the outside that no one knew about. Rivera and Gita are threatened with conspiracy to commit murder. Apparently, Gita was the one who murdered Lakeisha and Damien – I find that very hard to believe but hey, I don’t write this stuff. Detectives want to know who tipped off Lakeisha and Damien’s location. If Rivera gives them the information, they will let his pregnant girlfriend go.
Rivera really has a heart under all those tattoos. He reveals that Sunny was the one who confirmed the location. Benson is stunned.Sorry Benson, you ex BFF not only was two timing you with Chris but she’s also a hard core killa! But we all saw this coming – Benson’s relationships always end up the same way…
Sunny admits to stealing the drug money and trying to cover it up. Benson points out that the drug dealers were the ones who killed Paige, but they wouldn’t have done so without the information given by Sunny.
Sunny was supposed to make captain, but Paige never followed through with her side of the deal even though Sunny followed through with the plan to rise up in rank. And that’s why Benson never should have become BFF’s with her. Coulda saved her a lot of heartache in the end.
The episode ends as Sunny is being read her Miranda rights and leaving a very shaken Benson behind.

Ok…this was a little better – it isn’t the best but much, much better. I’ll get right into it – I really liked how this was a Benson-centric episode. The part I most enjoyed was that it didn’t focus at all on the ‘I’m a product of rape’ blah, blah, blah. It focused on how Benson could end up if she’s not careful. The ending scene with Sunny and Benson…that was awesome. The expression on Benson’s face when Qadri found her weakness and in a way exploited it in those brief seconds before the episode ended…this is how a ‘Benson-centric’ should be played. It was perfect…
