I was rereading one of my reviews, and I came upon this quote from "Uncle" (8.04) that seems totally relevant now: “I’ll get used to it.” –Dani Beck “When that happens, transfer out.” – Elliot Stabler That was a bit of foreshadowing, though not in the way we would have thought. Dani definitely get used to the unit, that was precisely the problem. She couldn't process not being able to save everyone. ETA: I also made this comment: "Aw. Dani and Elliot are stalking a perp together. How sweet. (Please excuse my retching sounds. We do not need a Dani/ Elliot romance!)" Amazing how in the space of six episodes my opinion could change so dramatically! Lol, good one. I'm so happy Liv is back. ;D I did kind of feel bad for Beck at the end. I guess its easier for Liv to fit in, sadly because of how she is and that she's a product of rape. Like that part in Kelly Clarkson's "Because of you", "My heart can't possibly break when it wasn't even whole to start with." It really applies to Liv, (the whole song) but especially that part. She can relate to the victims in a way that no one else can.

Although this episode consisted of a creepy horrorfilmesque bed-fire set by a little girl, it was very good. Well set-up and well-followed through. I'm a little sad to see Dani go; she wasn't that bad! It'll be nice to have Olivia back, but I still wouldn't mind Dani popping up randomly in a little twist somewhere in the near future (but not this-season-near!).

A little side note here on this episode. It was as many are ripped from the headlines.
The headlines it was ripped from is happening right here in the State of Ohio. A couple who kept their 11 handicapped adopted children in cages went on trial this past week. They have been broadcasting excerpts from the trial on Cleveland TV and the Associated press has covered it extensively. Here is their latest info

NORWALK, Ohio – A couple on trial for putting some of their 11 adopted children in cages are guilty only of loving them, a defense attorney said Tuesday in his opening statement. “Eleven is a strain, a huge strain, but they did it for the right reason,” said defense attorney Ken Myers.
The children have a host of health and behavioral problems such as fetal alcohol syndrome and a disorder that involves eating dirt. Sharen and Michael Gravelle have repeatedly said the enclosures were necessary to keep the children from harming themselves or one another. The Gravelles are charged with 16 counts of felony child endangering and eight misdemeanor child endangering charges.
The children ranged in age from 1 to 14 when authorities removed them in September 2005 from the Gravelles' home in rural Wakeman, about 60 miles from Cleveland. The Gravelles later lost custody, and the youngsters were placed in foster care.
Prosecutor Russell Lefler told jurors that for punishment the children were confined to the cages, forced to eat peanut butter for weeks and dunked head-first in the toilet.
“It's about chicken wire and wooden boards, being literally cooped up, hotter than blazes in summer, an amazingly shrill alarm and little fingers trying to tear wire,” Lefler said.
Myers defended the use of the enclosed beds, which he said were no smaller than an average bunk bed. He said the cages were necessary to protect the children from getting into trouble at night.
“Some of the kids thought they were cool because it felt like being in a fortress,” Myers said.
The prosecutor told the jurors the children were rescued from the home after a visit from a social worker who described the cages as “slave quarters.”
If convicted, Michael Gravelle, 57, and Sharen, 58, could get up to five years in prison on each felony count.

Boy you got that right. this couple is scary You got that right. There is no form of sane discipline that involved locking up your child in a cage, depriving them of food, etc. That's just cruel.

Just goes to show how nuts the world really is, huh?
That's just insane. How cracked do you have to be to think that doing somthing like keeping your kids in a cage is actually beneficial to them?

I heartily agree Trublu and Greeneyessstaring. But I have been watching our local news coverage of this high profile(at least in Ohio) case and that Defense Attorney has made the Prosecutor and one of the Social Workers look like they were guilty. Its downright amazing. This, for me, is the first SVU "Ripped From The Headlines" Cases to hit so close to home.

Yeah, I guess it really hits hard when you realize that somthing like that happened so close by. Because we always hear about really ugly and disturbing things, but they're never close to us, so we think "Ah, that would never happen here." But then something does happen, and we end up eating our words.

;D It got a little inspired, wouldn't you say?
I'm sorry, I think I kind of blow off steam when I think about how messed up things are in the world today.

This is my first Close To HomeRipped from the headlines experience. I forgot that many people in living in other areas on our Board hadn't heard about it. We hear about it here daily

I know the feeling.
Watching the news here in Mexico, I get the same feeling. Everyday, you tune in and they tell you who got gunned down by drug dealers, or who was killed in a drive-by shooting, and during the summer the "it" things with criminals in the city I live in was kidnapping and asking for ransoms. It was scary.

I must say I miss Olivia, well, I don't have anything against Dani but still... I think Olivia makes the hole show... and it's been a kind of a vacuum without her the latest episodes ! Elliot is kind of boring IMO and shouldn't have a leading character really ! Wonder if Olivia is coming back now if Dani is leaving as she inclined she would... //Well, if I read every thread in this forum I'd probably would find it out somewhere but I really haven't been around and haven't got the time//
