"Law and Order: Special Victims Unit" star Richard Belzer is starring in public service ad campaign for a New York animal shelter.
Belzer, who plays Detective John Munch on "SVU," appears in the ad with a pup named Munch and a kitten name Tater Tot, both from the Little Shelter Animal Adoption Center, the New York Daily News reported Monday.
"I had the greatest time. It was wonderful," Belzer told the newspaper. "Whenever a dog comes into a room your blood pressure goes down."
More than 2,000 taxi cabs as well as newspapers and magazines will carry the ads, the Daily News said.
Belzer, 61, said he had a pet turtle as a kid and has had seven cats through the years, but is now just learning the tricks of being a dog owner.
He recently adopted a 10-month-old border collie-mix who rescued in France. He named the pup Django after jazz great Django Reinhardt.

Big Screen Entertainment Ventures into Television Series Production
Hollywood, CA --(www.FinancialNewsUSA.com)-- 01/19/2006 - Big Screen Entertainment Group (OTC: BSEG) has inked a series development deal with acclaimed television comedy writer/producer Ron Zimmerman. Zimmerman's producer credits include the long-running WB series "Seventh Heaven," the Pamela Anderson comedy "VIP" and NBC's "The Michael Richards Show." Zimmerman also wrote episodes of ABC's "My Wife and Kids" and the FOX show "Action." Known for his frequent appearances on "The Howard Stern Show," Zimmerman is currently developing a feature film with Larry Charles (Producer -- "Curb Your Enthusiasm," "Entourage," "Seinfeld," "Mad About You"), Richard Belzer (currently starring in "Law and Order: SUV") and music superstar Madonna.
When asked to comment on the deal Zimmerman said, "Given the choice between a number of places to bring a very commercial property I have been working on for three years, I chose Kimberley Kates and Big Screen to develop what I feel is the project that is nearest and dearest to my heart. I have complete confidence in Kimberley's abilities. Other than Gail Berman, there is no other studio or network president that I have more respect for ... or fear of, for that matter."
Several networks have already expressed interest in the project and meetings with top stars in the film and television industry are underway.
