I wasn't trying to be funny; I was trying to make a point in a sarcastic manner. It's what I do, all the time, every day.
I tend to laugh at almost anything... don't worry though, you're point was not lost on me.
I did actually get it.
DiNovia: Stellar review as always. My inner fangirl thanks you.
So the episode... better than recent ones, I have to say. But it definitely was hindered by many a speed bump along the way...
First item on the docket: Lets talk about the original case. Now, I ask you, who searched the apartment? And I know it was searched, I specifically remember the CSI/cop type person saying it was. They obviously didn't search too well, since they didn't check everywhere. I understand that they didn't know that they were missing a child at the time, but hey, what if there was time sensitive evidence in the closet? (Don't ask me what, that is thier job). Taking pictures of the body: 2 minutes tops with the type of camera's they have. Collecting evidence that could be lost by moving the body: another 2 minutes tops. Checking the closet? Priceless.
Moving right along...
About two minutes after we met the charity guy, Carthage? if I'm remembering correctly from DiNovia's review... because I don't actually remember from the episode... My mom goes: "It was him." So, apparently predictable. I knew too ( I was just a little nicer about not sharing
). How hard is it to find a good charity these days? Every other show on TV, every other writer must be thinking "Corrupt charity! Never been done before, totally original, it will be shocking!" Newsflash: Not anymore! Knock it off! For once, would you writers feature a good charity; even have a member help solve the case maybe? Good writers. You get a treat.
The whole "rape set up" scene was totally out of place. It would have made much more sense if they had busted him in the act naturally; it wouldn't have been as awkward (for the sequencing of the show. Very awkward for the flake that called himself the head of a charity organization). It was like they ordered "Crime in A Box" (As Seen on TV) and added water. Poof! Doggie comes running. Not likely.
Next on the hit parade: The crib. Definition: Place for cops (on this particular show the SVU squad) to crash when they are on a case. Nowhere in that definition does it say "Optional use: Place for victims/witnesses to stay." Never. Do. That. Again. Olivia needed to explain to him the importance of staying with a foster family for a few days until they could get him another place to stay. Visit the kid at the foster home, play some checkers with him or something for an hour. Definition of Olivia Benson: SVU Cop. Not mother, surrogate mother, or otherwise. Stop HINTING writers, you're not writing in the pregnancy, so don't play like you are!
But since he was in the crib... HOW did he get out without someone noticing, get all the way to his apartment building, get hold of a GUN, go to the charity, and shoot Mr. Dipstick? Come on, get real people. Someone should have noticed that he was gone.
The scene at trial after Olivia intentionally blows the trial, a little awkward. I'm all for the subtexty hints (although I would rather enjoys some actual texty to screeny hints/actual actions) and I thought Casey's line "You changed my mind, I bet you changed a juror too" cute, but implausable. Casey said from the beginning that she didn't agree with it, but she didn't have the power to accept a plea bargain (Aw, why not, I'd like a little more power roll-over time with Mr. DA). So, why say she changed her mind, when she wanted to side with the child in the first place?
Highlight of the episode: Power trio. Novak, Donnelly, and Devere. Now THAT was the right way to pull the wool over their eyes. Sleazy defense lawyer #2 never saw it coming...not that they normally see much, anyways. They aren't that perceptive. Sophie ALMOST redeemed herself for going along with the Donnelly/Novak master plan. Almost. The "gun violence=head cold" defense did NOT sit well with me... but hey, made for an interesting storyline I suppose.
Cough, speaking of Donnelly... has anyone figured out yet how she became judge? The land of Wolf is the lang of magic promotions it seems. Donnelly- Judge. Alex- Bureau Chief. How DOES he do it?
Ok, seriously, the best quote of the episode:
Munch: So what should I use? Lemony Goodness or Mountain Spring?
(munchkin, I believe you were looking for the quote? I believe those were the right words. )
About the screen: On Tv.Com, says it was the first ep " broadcast in a 16:9 ratio, which is known as letterbox format". Yay trivia.
So...regardless of all the screw-ups... I still liked it. 9/10.
