Good evening everyone, Hello, it's the Byrdman coming at you again tonight. I hope that everyone is having a great week so far, just as you know I am. I just wanted to note the 25th anniversary of the death of a great man on December 8 - John Lennon. The leader of The Beatles was gunned down outside his home in the Dakota Apartments on Monday, December 8, 1980 by a crazed fan who he had given an autograph to hours before - Mark David Chapman. I'm just a Beatles fan, and I wanted to send a shout out to John today! Rock on, John! You're gone, but not forgotten!

Yep. I did a project on Britain in 7th grade and I played the Beatles during my presentation. Everybody liked it, especially me because I got to spend hours the night before picking out the songs

Hey arandomtuesday, Very cool on that presentation you gave! So, waht songs did you play for it? "Hey Jude"? "Something"? "Let It Be"? "Lady Madonna"? Just some of my random favorites. Also, what did you get on it? Just curious.

I read an article last week about this in Newsweek I think it was. I think they interviewed his wife or something.

Hi arandomtuesday and munchkin, Hi, girls! So, munchkin, was that Mark David Chapman's wife, or John's? If it's John's that is Yoko Ono. Are you a Beatles Girl? Do you know about them or listen to their music? Just curious. Hi, arandomtuesday. It's okay, girl. I'm glad that your presentation was upbeat indeed. I'm sure you did John and the other Beatles proud that day! Take care, and have a great night, girls!

I'm not really too familiar with John Lennon, though I did know that today was the 25th anniversary of his death. But does anyone know, was the shooting random? I cant imagine why a fan would shoot him after getting an autograph from him.

Hi trublu,
Hey, girl. Thanks for getting back with me on this, and for your question. To answer it - no, the shooting was not random. Mark David Chapman had developed a hatred for John Lennon over the years that develped into schizophrenia.
He was lurking outside John's apartment the whole day 25 years ago, and met him and John gave him an autograph, then John went to a recording session in the studio.
Mark David Chapman is really a strange case. He is still in prison for what he did, and to study him is just an odd exercise. He was in the military beforehand, and he has said that he grew to hate John while he was stationed in Hawaii. Now, John had never met him before that day, so one could question why all this hatred started in the first place.
However, he did the deed when John returned from the studio that night. Mark was still outside John's apartment, he pulled out his handgun and emptied it into John. Then he stood there calmly, and a hotel doorsman asked him, amazed, "Do you realize what you've done?" Mark looked at him and said in a monotone voice "I just shot John Lennon."
As far as the schizophrenia goes, it might have played a part, but I don't care. He did what he did, he killed one of the greatest musical geniuses this world has ever known, and he did it unremorsefully. I hope that he never gets out of prison myself.

I am glad to see there are still Beatles fans out there amongst the younger generations. I loved the Beatles..My sister and I snuck out of school to go see them when they came to Cleveland way back when. I remember all the controversy surrounding their first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show. Its through people like you that they will always live on.

Hi plb47, Good evening to you! It's a pleasure to meet you, girl. It's so great to hear such a nice reply here, and from a Beatles Girl too! Wow, your sister and you snuck out to see them? Were they playing a concert? They did not do that very often, I'm sure it was an experience you still hold dear. Thanks for saying mine was a nice tribute, and that The Beatles will always live on through people like me. Those are such kind thoughts, and I thank you for them, plb47. The Beatles were such a phenomenon, and they were so positive and had such great music throughout their run as a group that I do not think they will ever disappear. The Fab Four rock! So, do you have a favorite Beatle? Most girls who were their fans that I have talked with all loved Paul. Are you the same? Take care, and have a great night, plb47. See ya, girl!
