well, we did ok. we won the first round (both the jury and the judge agreed...although the judge is the only one that matters). they gave us really good comments and stuff...specifically on my posture and ease in the courtroom. so that was cool. i was so nervous before though! i was literally shaking. (my friends on the team know that i love SVU so they actually were telling me to be like casey ) unfortunately, the next day, we lost the next round (but still got the jury). oh well, there's always next year and it'll be a criminal case then thanks for asking, trublu! sounds like you enjoyed the experience though, caseybeatsalex. How exciting. Your Mom is a lawyer. well we have something in common. My daughter is a lawyer. became one cause of Law and Order ..the Mothership ;D

I made a total idiot of myself on cross yesterday; I had no idea what I was doing. At all. It's okay though. I'll work through.

don't worry, arandomtuesday! cross was the absolute worst for me as well. what i found helpful is to make a list of all of the things that i want to get out of the witness (such as them admiting where they were...or in your case what they saw) and then think of all the possible responses, write them down & then think of what you would say. if the witnesses try to talk for too long a time (which sucks!) just state the question with "yes or no" or "is it true that you said..." and quote their affadavits to them! that's how you get 'em! haha.
i was so nervous the whole time. but remember, cross is the time you can be sorta mean to the witnesses. be quick. be smart. but really, be confidant. if you believe it, the judge will see it and you'll get major points.
good luck! when is the competition?

The competition is in 11 days.
To the 2007 H******* High School Mock Trial Team Members and Parents:
It is with great regret that Coach T******* and I have concluded that we have no choice but to withdraw this year’s team from competition.
From the beginning, it seemed as if circumstances were against us. Our initial call for try-outs was attended by fewer students than we needed to make a team, so the start of practice sessions was delayed. Then, once the team was assembled, it was clear from the frequent absences at practice that some team members did not share the level of motivation required for us to give our best effort. Then, last week, our Attorney-Coaches were hit with a health crisis that made it difficult for them to give us the kind of “quality” and “quantity” time that we really need to be ready to compete. Therefore, with less than maximum effort on the part of some team members - and our “expert” helpers sidelined by illness - and with just eleven days until competition – there really isn’t any way for us to go on.
Coach T******* and I would both like to extend our thanks to those who came out for the team, believed in it, and tried hard to make it work. Your commitment to excellence is beyond question. You have our undying respect and admiration. You’re the greatest!
Randy L*** and Bobby T******* Teacher-Coaches

i'm so sorry, arandomtuesday! that really stinks! i understand the commitment issues that you guys faced, one of our team members decided to not show up the day of the competition so we had to train somebody completely new in one day! i'm sorry that it didn't work out for you this year--will you get to do it next year? it'll be a criminal case, right?
again, i'm sorry. do you want to be a lawyer when you get older, by the way?

Sorry about that Arandomtuesday..What rotten luck all the way around. People who don't make a full commitment to things annoy me big time. It ruins things for those that are serious. Hopefully next year you will get a team that has all members coming to really play.

Wow, I'm sorry about that arandomtuesday! That's rotten luck. I know what it's like to have people back out like that, and it really hurts. I really hope that you can get a more dedicated team together next year.

There's a bright side to this: I may get to go to a concert I wanted to attend that would have interfered with the competition. There's a 98% chance I'll get to go.
