Ice and NYC Mayor. who woulda thunk it Our Mike's cool as Ice in VH1 promo BY GREG WILSON DAILY NEWS CITY HALL BUREAU The May-ah is a play-ah. So said rap star and actor Ice T yesterday, after Mayor Bloomberg helped him shoot a promo for an upcoming VH1 show. "The mayor is the coolest dude ever," said Ice T, whose real name is Tracy Marrow. "He's cooler than air conditioning," chimed in Fab 5 Freddy, the co-executive producer for VH1's third annual "Hip Hop Honors," a tribute to such hip-hop world luminaries as Russell Simmons, the Beastie Boys and Ice Cube set to air Oct. 17. The duo wouldn't give away much about the upcoming show, except to say that Bloomberg appears in the opening and that it won't be apparent that the scene was shot in a City Hall women's rest room. "That's just where we did the shot to keep it low key," explained Freddy, a graffiti artist-turned video director whose real name is Fred Brathwaite. Asked if the mayor was a decent actor, Ice T, who played the role of Detective Fin Tutuola on "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," gave a diplomatic answer: "He's a better actor than I am a mayor." Told his answer showed skill that could be useful in a political career of his own, Ice T demurred. "Nah, I got outta crime," he said. Originally published on October 5, 2006
