Internationally acclaimed non-profit organization honors Dr. Neal Baer of Law & Order: SVU & Eugene Ahn of Wigglefish Comm
DMN Newswire--2008-10-14--Venice Arts, the local non-profit organization which has received critical acclaim around the world for its innovative arts programs, marks its 15th anniversary this year with an Intimate Dinner and Celebration event on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at Ravenswork Studio in Venice.
The evening's Honorary Hosts are stars of the hit NBC show, "Law & Order: SVU" Mariska Hargitay, Chris Meloni, and Dann Florek. The evening's Angels are: Dr. Neal Baer, Executive Producer and Showrunner for "Law & Order: SVU" and a member of Venice Arts' Board, and Eugene Ahn of Wigglefish Communication Design.
It is rare to have someone as extraordinary as Neal involved in a nonprofit organization," comments Lynn Warshafsky, Executive Director for Venice Arts. "He is a true humanitarian and has become a creative partner in a number of our programs, to the benefit of so many low-income children. We are so happy to be honoring his contributions."
"Eugene Ahn is a unique individual, a creative artist and brilliant web developer," adds Warshafsky. "He has donated literally tens of thousands of dollars of his time mentoring youth through Venice Arts, as well as supporting their learning on-line by building us two beautiful websites: thehouseissmall.org and beyondmyspace.org. He has helped assure that Venice Arts stays on the cutting edge of technology -- not for its own sake, but in support of meaningful programs for kids."
Earlier this year, Venice Arts marked the significant milestone of its 15th Anniversary by unveiling its new Gallery and Media Learning Center in Venice, as well as expanding Venice Arts' programs and outreach throughout Los Angeles. Venice Arts' new Gallery and Media Learning Center, located at 1702 Lincoln Blvd, features a state-of-the-art digital media lab, darkroom, classroom and shooting space. It has allowed Venice Arts to expand its roster of workshops for low-income youth, host larger exhibits, and launch workshops for adults.
"It is a great accomplishment when a non-profit whose mission is to teach youth creative skills can sustain itself for fifteen years," says Venice Arts' Creative Director, Jim Hubbard. "Venice Arts has done just that, while the majority of non-profits cannot last two years. The proof of our success is in the excitement and commitment of hundreds of young people who are so eager to learn something can be witnessed every day in our workshops," concludes Hubbard.
Event Details:
Venice Arts 15th Anniversary Intimate Dinner and Celebration on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at Ravenswork Studio in Venice will include: delicious food and drink, music and dancing, photography auctions, and more. Funds raised from this event will support Venice Arts' free programs for low-income children in photography, filmmaking, and digital arts, as well as national and international documentary projects.
The special-ticket Intimate Dinner is from 5:30-7:00 pm, and features outstanding food from local restaurants A Taste of Venice, Russian River Valley wine bottled exclusively for Venice Arts, eco-friendly cocktails by VeeV and the honoring of the Venice Arts' Angels.
A Venice Arts Celebration begins at 7:00 pm, when the music revsup, hors d'oeuvres and drinks are served, and silent and live auctions take off, featuring work by renowned photographers, as well as Venice Arts' students. Guests will have portraits taken by students and can record their digital stories in the Ravenswork sound studios.
Entertainment for the evening's celebration will be provided by three-time Grammy Award-winning musical group: "Estrellas De Los Angeles," featuring members of the Israel "Cachao" Lopez band, some of whom have played with him for over 15 years. In light of Cachao's passing earlier this year, these musicians are keeping their promise to "sigue la tradicion" ("continue the tradition"). Among the "Estrellas" will be Lazaro Galarraga on lead vocals, Danilo Lozano on flute and Richard Marquez on congas. The band will perform a descarga, an Afro-Cuban jam session created by Cachao, comprised of a medium-sized ensemble based on the conjunto. Entertainment for the dinner portion of the evening will be provided by Venice Latin jazz singer Birdie Mendoza.
