We've done it!!! We've elected the first black president in the history of the United States!!! I cannot tell you how happy I am (and how biased this post is, so forgive me). But I am so happy that I am alive to see this moment. My school has exploded.

I am thrilled that he won. Absolutely thrilled. I did have a good feeling about it, so I didn't spend too much time worrying, but I feel extremely happy now!

I am with you all on breaking down the barriers on this. I was no advocate on electing a black person president (meaning that would not be the ONLY reason I voted for someone) but it is a HUGE step for us as the American people for sure! ;D

Are you first in line? ;D I might be. I've heard that about 10 seconds after the election was called, people were making Facebook groups for it, but I have yet to see one. That said, I wouldn't be surprised.... or totally opposed to joining one.

I applaud the election of our first Black President but I deplore the obvious hatred for our current President.
I am no fan of Bush, but does anyone else feel that the hatred of the left towards Bush and anything conservative, by Obama supporters takes away from his victory?
Change we can believe in is what I want.
As a life long independent I deplored this election season. The vitrol and hatred to anyone not supporting Obama frightened me.
I was hoping this country would be united by this victory and that Obama could lead the way, but the hatred being spewed to the losing party is something beyond believe.
Our nation has always had a peaceful transition of power.
I am looking to President-Elect Obama to lead us. Our nation needs clear and strong leadership.
I intend to support him every step of the way.

I can agree with you finaddict and as I read all the posts (on other boards) of those who did not want Obama to win, I just thought he IS your president now so get on board. I totally understand the reasons behind the Bush hating and while I know many people voted FOR Obama because of the hatred of the republican party right now, that I agree, yes that part is sad (as are the ones who would not vote for Obama due to color). But they should at least let Obama prove or disprove himself before casting stones. Like most people here I am ready for some change and let's let him attempt to lead us there and this election sadly came down to color and hatred in many ways. I am no fan of Bush but all the bitching I heard the past several years, I never said much because I do believe the powers that be put who they want in office and I can't say I have ever blamed ONE person for the failures we've been seeing.

That is the whole idea behind the peaceful transistion of power. We fight a good clean hard fight then settle down and work for the success of the person elected. It is ok to dislike policies we see as dangerous and work towards a compromise we can all work with.
It is the bitterness and hatred since 2000 that has been disturbing to me.
The 1st amendment rights of all need to be protected. We have the right to say what we want but what are we doing to our country by the constant barage of personal attacks that benefit no one.
Let us work together to make it better and give the new Administration time to move us in a new direction. I predict in 2 years we will know where we are. I doubt it can happen sooner.
