Notorious BIG's legacy remembered Thursday, January 08, 2009, 07:08
P Diddy, Ice-T and Jadakiss still remember the legacy Notorious BIG left behind, 11 years after his untimely death. P Diddy, one of his closest friends, said at the New York premiere of Notorious, which he executively produced: "Biggie's one of the greatest rappers that have ever lived, because he was always pushing his mind. "It wasn't because of his bravado, it wasn't because he was big, but his mind, the way he wrote. He raised the bar, and that's his impact. He made a lot of hip-hop artists hit the books and think about a different approach or a different way to say something." Rapper Ice-T added: "It's the American dream. You come out of the hood and negative stuff, then all of a sudden, you become a big star. "For me to be in the game for 10 years, then see him come in, sent a shockwave through the game. It's incredible - such a real, original style. To have come out with an art form as real as hip-hop, it's not just music. This has soul, it has content. It's just a unique thing." And labelmate Jadakiss recalled: "Biggie was more than a role model. He had a humongous impact on my career. We used to sit down and write rhymes and verses that we just wanted to hear. "Being on the same label as him is a priceless experience. He is one of the greatest rappers of all time, and everyone should remember him for what he did in and for the hip-hop community." Notorious is out from January 16.

I think that Biggie like many other hip hop stars could never escape the violence of the hood. Ice-T was very fortunate in this.

one thing i love about Ice-T is his gift of introspection on hip-hop, from inside his own experience as well as out. and i'm glad to see him on a lot of specials sharing his views.
i listen to BIG's music as well. i just wished we got to see more of the man while he was still on this earth.
