Definitely ironic on the timing. The swine flu reminded me of SARS too Jr Benson. Myself and a few friends had been to Toronto around that time. Well of course I am right across the border from Windsor, I don't remember how bad it was there but remember Toronto for sure.
Anyways on to the epi, finaddict you are SO right...many of us never had to deal with something like that. I think my generation was get the shots and be safe. I don't think I ever knew of anyone here who REFUSED the vaccinations on such things. Granted it is the right of the parent but I guess I can agree she was guilty of negligent homicide because if you want to do that, then don't let your child out in the public. I personally don't think I could have convicted the mom to actual jail time but maybe some sort of community service to deal with sickly/terminal children.
I do agree with you also true, while we say it is the parents right with a child that young...ultimately what happens affects those who can not speak for themselves.
All in a all a good episode! While annoying, Gail and Hillary gave wonderful performances. Shocker of an ending somewhat, poor grandpa lost his whole life and soul in that poor little grandaughter of his!

I was shocked when I saw her I was like hey! I'm so glad I taped the episode too, because she was it as well. All in all it turned out great.
I remember reading about something about one of her sisters who had diabetes she died from it I believe. I just don't remember where I read it at so I think that's why she did the commcial in the first place.

I saw the commercial also and thought of you, but I was way more excited over Melinda's court testimony. She did an awesome job.

Back to the episode:
I watched the episode off and on today.
I'm vaccinated for everything because I have several severe health conditions, and it's better to risk the side effects then to not and get myself, and likely others sick. And some of the stuff vaccinated for would be worsened by my health conditions.

You raise a valid point, Dani. Many conditions would be made worse if someone got a disease there was a vaccine for.

You raise a valid point, Dani. Many conditions would be made worse if someone got a disease there was a vaccine for. Thank you! For example, one of my conditions is asthma. I'm getting over a chest cold which is bad for asthma. This time, my asthma got to the point where my doctor wouldn't let me leave the office until my breathing stats were up to 94%, they were at 91% and couldn't hear through my chest. Prednisone rocks.

Off a point someone made earlier about swine flu: there's no vaccination for it yet, it's a new strain of the flu, which is why it is causing so much damage. The "flu" vaccine that we do have doesn't cover every strain of the flu, and strains can mutate to new forms. Think of something like the common cold; I read a statistic once that you will never have the same strain of the cold over the course of your lifetime, for as many times as you have a cold. Good thing that other viruses aren't like that!
What you were saying Dani goes along with what I was saying earlier, as well. That child has a right to not be sick, and part of that is making sure that they are not unduly exposed when they are older and have lesser conditions. Many people (who have asthma, for instance) are classified "high risk" for things like the flu, and often are notified that they should be vaccinated. It's heavily recommended by doctors. And that's just the flu, so imagine something like measles.
Now that I'm thinking about it as well, think about something like tetanus shots, or hepatitis. Think about that time that you cut yourself on the side of something metal, say you had a metal stand or something in your house. If you're vaccinated for tetanus & hepatitis, you don't really have to worry about infection. You can also get hepatitis from alcohol, drug usage... and that immunization could save a lot of undue trouble.
I would take what Warner said on the stand into the most consideration: the number of deaths from most vaccinations are practically zero. A child has more chance dying from an unknown food allergy. If we were to try and shield people from anything and everything that has a minuscule chance of hurting them... well, we'd end up dying! Couldn't go outside, couldn't eat without being regularly checked for food allergies, couldn't take a bath (could slip in the tub!). You see how these spirals out of control very quickly.

I agree with you there, boss . I think it's fear/peranoia that stops us - you can't really blame them. But you hit it right on the nail, without vaccinations, we'd all be in serious trouble.
