Live thoughts:
Well, the introduction was certainly, shall we say, smashing. I don't like the police chief very much, especially the way he views special victims. But regardless, the unit has yet another case that isn't theirs, but here we go.
Elliot: I had kids the old fashioned way. Because we needed to know that.
Doctor: Women are putting off having children longer and longer, especially if they have careers.
Well if he didn't just nail Benson to a "t"... maybe? If that wasn't enough, the woman actually making a visit to the unit only serves to just hammer the point home. Olivia has to be thinking about her own biological clock, and how it is taking a backseat to her career. Even Elliot decides to give it a go, but Olivia's "shut up and drive" response makes it pretty clear. Sounds like someone is trying to say something.
Munch: We had the sketch artist do a rendering, it's one of our victims, should I put out an APB on it?
Kay, so anyone else think that it was obvious we'd be seeing the "values" people again? With larceny charges tacked on? Yeah. Values and larceny in the same sentence. Makes a lot of sense to me too.
Fin: You still on that machine? Since when are you super tech? Munch: Since you dumped me for Lake.
Statement, anyone?
So, Olivia looked into adoption. That makes sense with her story arc, being that she doesn't want her DNA passed on for fear some of her father will live on. Her being rejected also makes sense: she has no family, she works crazy hours, and she's had plenty of issues with cases. Elliot also has a point, though, that she would make a great mother. Her job probably makes her more qualified to be a mother than it would hinder her, time issues aside. She knows children, and she knows how to take care of them. If this episode is any indication, then I think we'll be seeing more of this theme later.
The ending was very fitting. As soon as they mentioned that there was a husband whose wife was going to Iraq, it made sense that he lashed out because she wasn't alive to give eggs anymore. Her arrival back home was a very touching, very well executed scene. Military proceedings are very sensitive and very solemn, and the writers, actors and directors did a great job of latching on to those themes in that scene. I felt that it was a very real representation, though I can't comment on someone who died in combat.
Overall, I thought that this was a very poignant episode, though I thought that if the issue of conception vs. birth was going to be brought up, it should have been addressed in a bit more depth. There were definitely a couple scenes that could have been cut to make more room for that argument. It was definitely a good episode to end this portion of the season with, until we get new episodes. Hopefully we'll get a settlement, but if not, I wonder if we won't see some scabs coming in to finish out the season.

That was a sad ep! There were some great scenes with EO! I figured that Olivia might have done something to effect of trying to adopt but I knew that her job was a major factor, I have seen the same thing happen to a close friend first hand! The whole thing with Fin dumping John for Chester was histerical!

OK, I feel like I watched a different episode Seeing the detectives together was the only redeeming thing about this episode. Other than that, I hated the whole thing except the ending. *dodges frying pans* I just couldn't get into the episode. The ending was poignant and I didn't see that part coming but the rest, I just didn't like it. *retreats*

I must, to some point, agree with Finaddict. I thought it contained a few good moments, but regardless of that, it just felt non-SVU-ish.

where was the "secret Olivia has been hiding for years"?? Seemed to me the only secret she was hiding was the adopting thing, but that had only happened a few months before...
That part disappointed me. If we had to go out without any new eps, I wanted to go out with a bang. I loved the ending though actually. Sad, overall. ):

The whole episode left a bad taste in my mouth. I just didn't think this was an SVU case.

The whole episode left a bad taste in my mouth. I just didn't think this was an SVU case. Hey Finaddict I thought that exact same thing. I didn't like this episode either and besides the fact that Melinda wasn't in it it just wasn't SVU for me. But at least Melinda was mentioned, but still I wanted her in the episode at least I would've had something to look forward to before we get ruruns for a while.

I feel sometimes that all I do is complain about SVU. This being a Board dedicated to the love of show makes me uncomfortable with my complaints. I respect each and every actor on the show and the characters they portray. Having said all this, I must say that I long for the first 6 season. A Captain assigning a case to his detectives. The detectives working as a team(all of them) to find and arrest the perp/perps. The ME and The Shrink working to give cause of death and motive. The ADA taking this info and building a strong case, then taking it to trial. This is what I would like to see again after the strike is settled.

I definitely agree with you Finaddict and I'd love to see that once the strike is over as well. SVU just isn't the same wothout the cases the SVU cases that is and that's not been happening for a while and I'd like the old SVU again or at least go back to the sex crime cases instead of these cases that have nothing to do with SVU whatsoever.

I have mixed feelings about this episode. It was a sad episode with an ending that I did not see coming, but was understandable. Agree that it was not an SVU case but enjoyed seeing all the detectives work together. All in all I liked the episode but it was not one of the best. I give it a 6 out of 10.
Oh, and where was Trevor Langan? It was my understanding that he was to be the defense attorney in this episode. I did not like the guy who played the defense attorney.
p.s. Maybe Trevor was moonlighting on CASHMERE MAFIA.

I really enjoyed this ep. I loved all the E/O ness. Over all the whole ep was good. I laughed at how El kept putting his foot in his mouth so to speak. lol After the ep I jokingly said to her how funny would it be if Olivia told Elliot she was gonna do invetro (sp? lol) and then asked him to be the father. lol ( I know it will never happen, but hey it gave me a great idea for a fan fic. ;D) Then my mom said he'll probebly offer lol . (agian I know it will never happend lol.) I was like that would be a little to wierd for them, not to mention I think Cathy would smack El up side the head. lol (jk jk)

Oh I had forgot about Langan's appearance Rambabe. I though the same thing stablerstolemyheart.....it almost seemed to awkward a moment to go that direction didn't it? I also have to ask Finaddict and Rambabe (since they are the only ones a few years older than me... if they watched this other show) was the doctor from the clinic the one who played David on One Day at a Time? I did not see the beginning credits and he is not listed on IMBD but that was his voice, I am sure of it.
