Due to circumstances beyond our control, our staff has decided that we will no longer endorse the TeeVea.com polls as a board. The competition has gotten too nasty for our liking, and we are a much classier board than that.
We are not saying that you should not continue to vote. What you do with your time and your votes is up to you. I myself am planning on voting for as long as possible. We are also not prohibiting you from discussing the voting on these boards. However, until such a time as improvements are made and moderators begin to clean up the site, we simply cannot endorse it.

It's just voting but people have taken it to the extreme. I guess it's kinda late for saying "IT'S JUST A GAME!!!" here, right?

I actually sent an e-mail to the parent site, hopefully I'll get a response!
ETA: I just got the response:
Thanks for your email. Teavee has really taken off and we are getting lots of emails expressing concern about the same issues you raised. The most common complaint is the negative vote button. We are really thinking this one over and may in fact remove it at some time in the future.
The nasty comments in the forums are unfortunate. We have recently installed a bad-word filter to automatically change bad words into less offensive replacements but more work in this area is needed. Our "self-moderating" flag system is there to remove the inappropriate posts automatically when enough people flag an item.
The fake shows is an interesting problem. We could just delete any show that we don't think belongs but "Nick Vera's Variety Hour" is in fact, a show in Cananda (so I'm told.) And "Fake Show" is a cable access show. Our current thinking on this front is if any fake show can get lots of votes, then that show deserves its ranking!
We're going to be continuously improving the site as time goes on, thanks for your input and we sure hope to see you back on Teavee.
Best, Andrew
A copy of my letter for reference:
To whom it may concern:
I'm a concerned fan wondering about your TV voting site. I've been voting for many months, and up until now I have enjoyed the competition. However, in recent months, additions to the site have turned me away.
First, the negative button has no place in a poll like this. A quote from the FAQ:
" It used to be the only way to cast your vote is to watch the show. But if you are not one of the few Nielsen families you didn't really get to vote. By letting the whole world cast their votes, different shows will rise to the top."
However, the negative button has inhibited the results of this poll. Viewers are simply voting against a show, not because it isnt good, but because their show is losing.
Also a problem are the forums. The comments are unmoderated, and some of them get pretty nasty. Most have nothing to do with the show at all. Many are trying to get votes for another show. A lot are just plain profanity across the board. Probably not a good way to impress the execs and convince them to possibly concider the voting in their "cut and keep" decisions.
Finally, there are a multitude of fake shows. "Nick Vera's Variety Hour" for one and another simply titled "Fake Show."
I understand that it is difficult to completely moderate such a huge and encompassing site. I myself own two message boards, and at a significantly smaller size than the TeaVee.com website it is still hard to moderate. However, it needs to be tackled, and I suggest getting some help from somewhere.
In contemplating this e-mail, you should also consider how many people are directed to your site via advertising. Up until this point, I have supported this site on all my boards. However, now I am making it VERY clear to my members that I no longer endorse your site. And most of them agree. So please, consider cleaning up your site.
Sincerely,
A TV Fanatic
I have concluded that the management on this site must be extremely naiive. Obviously the negative button isnt working. The comments in the forum are unfortunate- and uneeded. That's what this forum is about: to talk about the show. We don't need that one. The self-moderating flag system isn't working.
The guy spelled Canada wrong, and "Nick Vera's Variety Hour" isn't an actual show (and they would know that if they had done any amount of research at all.) I know for a fact that someone over at the "Look Again" forum created it for kicks.
And, if they're trying to make other opinions known to the execs, and not just the opinions of Nielson families, then why are they allowing fake shows? People are just being rediculous. If they're going to be serious about running this site, they have a long way to go.

Actually, the nation he was referring to is indeed Cananda, though commonly mistaken for Canada, off the Western coast of Brazil.

So I send my letter and I pretty much got the same reply as Trublu. This guy...*sighs*...has no idea what is going on here. He's past the point of naiveness.

Note: I will no longer be sporting the "voting banner" in my profile, as I am no longer voting for SVU. However, any of you who are still voting for SVU and wish to keep it in your profile may do so.
