With 10 seasons of Law & Order: SVU under her belt, Emmy-winning actress Mariska Hargitay says she'd consider leaving the hit show – for one very important reason.
"I just want to see my kid," the 44-year-old actress, who is mom to son August, 2, says in the January issue of Ladies' Home Journal.
Or maybe some maternity leave in the future would more appropriate. Hargitay says that she and husband Peter Hermann are "trying" to have another child and expand their family.
Despite her successful career and family life, Hargitay didn't always feel so confident. She thinks of herself as a late bloomer.
"I'm so grateful I was given these opportunities at a point in my life when I could really handle it all," she says, referring to her show, her charity organization for rape victims, Joyful Heart, and her family. "I got my gig late, got married late, had my kid late – and none of it came a minute too soon."
Why does she think she's such a late bloomer?
"I just didn't think I was very good," she explains.
Losing her famous mother, actress Jayne Mansfield, in a deadly car crash at age 3 also left her feeling vulnerable.
"All my life I'd had this problem with following through, not feeling that I was worth it," she says. "Not having a mother makes you think, 'If only I'd been better, she wouldn't have left me.'"
But becoming a mother herself has been her greatest joy, says Hargitay, who calls son August "the oxygen in my water."

HILARY SWANK has paid tribute to best pal MARISKA HARGITAY in a new magazine expose on the LAW + ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT star, revealing the actress has always been there for her highs and lows.
Swank was asked to contribute to a piece on her friend in the new issue of Ladies Home Journal, and she jumped at the chance to sing Hargitay's praises.
The double Oscar winner says, "Mariska has helped me through life-changing times, but also helped me find the moments of celebration.
"She's a real girl's girl. She's not threatened by strong women and that's rare in this business."
Swank admits she stays with Hargitay whenever she's on location in New York City: "Last time we literally sat in her closet 'til 3am, talking, going through clothes and laughing - and she had a 7am call time! She's my family."
