Media Life Magazine (Contains a small spoiler.) Apparently, SVU had its best showing in weeks, ratings wise, Tuesday night. While FOX won the night (not unusual when Idol is on the schedule), the show had a 3.9 audience rating among viewers 18-49, the second highest rating of the season. Perhaps it was Hillary Duff, perhaps the contract drama, perhaps something else. What do ya'll think?

Any drama always brings people out. I think a lot of us (the fans) are soaking it all in - this may be the last season we will see our two fave actors.
But I think it's the combination of all the things you've listed.

I think it is a combination of all 3 things. I also think people who normaly watch the show but had backed off a little are now returning so as not to miss anything.

From Seattlepi.com www.seattlepi.com/tvguide/405858_tvgif4.htmlNBC Exec: SVU Will Return "With or Without" Its Two LeadsBy MICKEY O'CONNOR NBC has officially made it clear that Law & Order: SVU will continue on the network with or without leads Mariska Hargitay and Chris Meloni. "The show is coming back; we hope they come back with it," said Marc Graboff, co-chairman of NBC Entertainment, at Monday's upfront presentations. Hargitay and Meloni are currently renegotiating their contracts with the network, and sources have characterized the discussions as aggressive. Asked if SVU would cast new leads if those contract talks stall, Graboff added only, "The show's coming back — with or without them." Is this just a shrewd negotiation strategy on NBC's part or might they actually recast? Stay tuned. Representatives for both Hargitay and Meloni did not immediately respond to TVGuide.com's requests for comment. In the meantime, though, we ask: Would you watch Law & Order: SVU with new lead detectives? ------------------- oh boy...my tummy is starting to hurt with all this worry/stress

This might actually induce me to care more about the episodes, unless it becomes the "new character & new character" show, like it is now. But, I could see how this would drive many viewers away. It would probably be a poor decision on NBC's part not to resign the two, however, I'd be curious to know what they're asking for that's so "intense".
