I love him deeply and will miss him terribly — I’m so excited to see what he’ll do next.” Earlier this week, TVLine broke the news that Meloni was turning in his badge after 12 years of playing Detective Stabler. The actor tendered his resignation after marathon contract talks with NBC collapsed suddenly. A search is now underway for a big-name actor to be paired with Hargitay’s Detective Benson before she steps away from her full-time beat at midseason.

Why would they need a big name to replace him? Look what happened to Jeff Goldblum. He didn’t even make a dent on L&O: CI. Big names don’t necessarily mean great chemistry. I think they could find a great ‘replacement’ if they look at actors without the ‘big name’ attached to ‘em. Know what I mean?

I agree with you completely, JrBenson. Even though, to me it probably wouldn't matter who they replace him with, the show won't be same any more without Mariska and Chris. I became a fan because of them.

I can't picture anyone opposite Mariska except Chris. I have been with the show since day one and watched at the beginning to see how Munch would do in NYC but I still am upset Chris won't bw back.

Unfortunately, with the way they've built up the model of the show, it became too much about Benson and Stabler. I don't know that they'll survive, at least at the popularity that we're used to seeing the show at, without both of their leads full-time at the helm. It was going to be dicey with just Mariska taking a part-time bid, but without Chris altogether, I don't know what they're going to do.
It'll be interesting to see how the newly-casted leads fit in; it looks like they didn't go with huge names, but respected names in the crime drama world, which could be a good sign.

OMG! He's leaving? Aww man but I've always wanted to see Olivia and Elliot to get together.
Please refrain from duplicate posting. You posted this same remark in another thread (the Chris Meloni exits SVU thread).
