www.tvline.com/2011/07/law-order-svu-stephanie-march-diane-neal/July 5th, 2011 Law & Order: SVU Scoop: Stephanie March, Diane Neal Heading Back to CourtTwo of Law & Order: SVU‘s most popular ADAs — Stephanie March and Diane Neal — are headed back to the show this fall. An SVU spokesperson confirms that the pair will return for “an undetermined number of episodes” during SVU‘s upcoming 13th season. The news comes a week after the show tapped Danny Pino and Kelli Giddish to help fill the detective void left by Chris Meloni. Leading lady Mariska Hargitay, meanwhile, will appear in all 22 episodes, although her Benson character is expected to segue into more of a supervisory role. Thoughts? Are you less inclined to cancel your SVU season pass now that March and Neal are returning? Hit the comments!

YES. That is all. Finally, they're doing something right. They gave both these characters shoddy return storylines, so I hope they can do them justice this time around. They definitely at least have me intrigued with this!

This just made me squeal like a girl! And I'm at work!
But I'm glad both women are coming back (even for a short time.) I think the new writers are finally getting the hint of what works. And these two women definatly work!

And these two women definatly work! Warren Leight, the new showrunner plus all the new writers hopefully will improve things. Warren fired all the previous writers except for Judith McCreary. He wanted all of the writers to be NY based. The only one who is LA based is McCreary and she is primarily a production consultant who has been with SVU from almost the beginning. Some of the writers went with Neal Baer to his new show on CBS.

I am beyond delighted at this news. Made me want to smile and jump up and down. If anyone can save this show those two ladies get my vote hands down. ;D

So does this mean she'll be staying or will she pull a 'Dr. Huang'? - she'll be there for the first half of the episode then disappear the second half...sorry I'm a little confused

According to TPTB Liv will be a detective as usual for the first 13 episodes and will then be promoted to a supervisory position. What that is we don't know yet. Normally a detective would be promoted to a Sergeant but we all know from past experience this show is far from normal. When Liv is promoted to this position she will have less screen time. Mariska requested more time off to spend with her newly expanded family and this is the way they decided to proceed.
