The detectives of the Special Victims Unit are called to the scene when a hotel maid (Anika Noni Rose) reports being assaulted by Italian diplomat Robert Distasio (Franco Nero). Bureau Chief Mike Cutter (Linus Roache) and Assistant District Attorney Alex Cabot (Stephanie March) prosecute the high-profile case, which quickly grows more complicated as the maid's credibility is publicly questioned. Detective Amanda Rollins (Kelli Giddish) joins the Manhattan SVU from Atlanta, while Detective Benson struggles to cope with the fall-out from the shooting in the precinct.
Welcome back SVU!
The gang is all back. Minus one, plus a new one. lol.
The beginning was kinda...not sure how to describe it. There was no introductions at all. It was 'GO' all the way. Everyone, most notably Olivia, was dealing with what happened in last season's finally. Biggest change, obviously, no Elliot.
I do however really loved the way Elliot's departure was handled. From the moment we see the inside of the precinct, you know that Elliot has taken time off, isn't answering Olivia's calls and was being investigated by IAB - and that was in the first 20 minuets.
We also got to meet Amanda Rollin in the first 10 minuets. So far, I like her. She's got that hero worship thing going with Olivia - kinda cute. But she seems ok...for now.
Also, Alex is back. A quick blink and you'll miss it explanation why she's back in NY. (sigh)...somethings don't change. She has changed a bit since we last saw her. She's got some of that fire - like the first time we met her. I guess Africa was good to her.
Olivia...she's distant and distracted - understandably so. But it's also a little out of character for her. At one point Alex gave her this 'who are you?' look.
The ending...I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen it yet. Grab your tissues. That's all I'm saying.
Good first episode. Solid.
