Chapter 1
Olivia Benson was not in a particularly happy mood as she was leaving the precinct. They had gotten two new cases that day. She just wanted to get home and sink into a nice, hot bath and not think about an SVU case for five minutes. As she was barreling out the door, she ran straight into Casey Novak, and the files the ADA were carrying spilled all over the precinct stairs. “Whoa! In a hurry to leave are we Detective?”
Casey bent down to start picking up her scattered papers, and Olivia stooped down to help her. “I’m so sorry counselor. They really need to think about putting in some traffic lights, that’s a dangerous intersection.”
Casey chuckled at the attempt at a joke, and the two finished collecting the papers and stood up. Their eyes locked for a moment, but Olivia quickly looked away. “Thanks.”
“No problem. What are you doing here anyway?”
Casey shifted uncomfortably, refusing to make eye contact with Olivia. “Casey what’s wrong?” Olivia asked. She sensed that something wasn’t right with the ADA, she was too shifty. “Nothing, nothing. Sorry, I spaced out for a moment. I came to tell everyone that the jury found Ford guilty on all charges.”
“That’s excellent Casey! There wasn’t a lot of evidence to give you on his case. You should be proud of yourself.”
“Yeah, uh, thanks.” Casey still wouldn’t make eye contact, and Olivia was getting very worried. But before she had a chance to say anything else to the redhead, Casey mumbled and excuse and began to walk down the street. “Casey! CASEY!”
Olivia yelled as loud as she could, but the ADA didn’t turn around. “d*** her. So headstrong. Kinda reminds me of Alex.” Olivia smiled, thinking of the blonde. They were best friends. She told Alex everything, including how she preferred dating women. She was having that feeling again. Everything she was around Novak, she got butterflies in her stomach. “Something isn’t right with her.” Olivia continued down the steps, and headed in the direction of Casey’s apartment.
Chapter 2
Casey had mumbled such a lame excuse to Olivia that even she couldn’t remember what it was. She heard Olivia call out her name after she left, but she kept walking. She had asked her if there was something wrong. “Yeah, Olivia, there is something wrong. But I can’t get you involved, I just can’t.” Casey took out the keys to her apartment, and opened the door. Her mind wandered to the letter she had found in her office that day. It had come with a dozen roses, same as the letter before that and the letter before that. Her whole office thought she had a secret admirer. But, Casey was scared. Those letters contained extremely personal details. She had no clue how this guy was getting them. She had started looking over her shoulder so often that she bumped into at least three people on her bicycle on her way to work that day. But she saw nothing. She knew she should say something, but she was too scared. Normally, she would speak her mind, most of the time without giving a second thought to the consequences. But, she had prosecuted enough cases with SVU to see all the horrible things that happened. He talked about her morning rituals, her runs in the park, when she went to the batting cages. All the things she kept a secret from everyone else, he knew. Casey put down her briefcase and looked around her apartment. It felt so foreign to her. It used to feel so safe, somewhere she could be to let her tears run until the bathwater turned cold. She turned around to shut the door to her apartment, but instead she saw a familiar face. “Olivia…” Casey managed to stammer out the detective’s name, but lost her voice after that. “Casey, I… Can I come in?”
Casey raised her eyebrow, trying to hide all the emotions that were running through her. As desperately as she didn’t want Olivia to find out what was happening to her, she didn’t want to go through it alone either. “Come on in Olivia.” Casey moved aside so that the detective could enter her apartment. “Thanks.” Olivia gave Casey a warm smile as she entered the apartment. Casey tried to smile back, but it ended up as sort of a sad smile. She noticed that Olivia’s smiled was quickly beginning to fade, so she shut the door and turned toward her. “Would you like me to take that?” Casey made a gesture for Olivia’s coat. “And something to drink maybe?”
“Thanks. I don’t need a drink though. Casey, I need to talk to you.”
Casey knew what was coming, but she didn’t want to bring it up herself. “Yes? What is it?”
Olivia let out a large sigh, and she looked Casey straight in the eye. Casey looked away and went over to the couch. “Please let her help me…”
Chapter 3
Olivia saw Casey walked over to the couch and followed her closely behind, determined to get to the bottom of whatever was bothering her. “When did I become so invested in this? I need Alex, she’d tell me what to do. She’d be able to tell me why I’m feeling this was, she was always there for me. That’s it. I need to be there for Casey. She needs someone.”
“Casey, Casey, look at me.” The ADA reluctantly looked up, and Olivia saw the fear in her eyes. She also felt her heard break into a million pieces. “Casey, whatever is bothering you, please tell me.”
“I---I--- god Olivia, I’m scared.”
“Casey, please tell me. I only want to help you.” Olivia moved closer to Casey, hoping that she had gained her trust, and that she didn’t move away. She didn’t. “Please.”
Casey looked up at Olivia, and saw the loving, compassionate side of her that was so often hid away. She knew that she needed to tell her right away, that she would help her out. “Alright, I’ll tell you. There has been something, someone really that has been bothering me. I’ve been getting these strange letters, they, contain rather personal details. About when I get up in the morning, until I go to bed at night. Olivia, how is he getting all of this? How?”
Olivia could see the tears forming in the redhead’s eyes. She moved over on the couch again, and held on tight as Casey leaned into her, sobs wracking her body, completely letting go. “Let it out Casey, don’t keep it in.”
Olivia and Casey sat there for almost an hour, rocking back and forth. Casey’s tears had wound down, and she sat up a little, wiping the tears away. “I’m so sorry I didn’t say anything earlier, but I was scared. Olivia, I don’t know what to do.”
“Don’t worry Casey. We are gunna help you any way that we can. Do you still have the letters?”
“Um, yeah. They are in here. I thought about throwing them away, but I couldn’t. They were too personal.”
“I hate to have to ask you this Casey, but I need to see them. They are evidence.”
Casey looked like she had just been hit by a truck, but nodded and went off into her room. A minute later, she emerged with something in her hands. “Here, this is all of them. I’ll be right back, I kinda need to get changes, you know the suit…” “That’s fine Casey, it’ll give me a minute to go over these real quick.”
Olivia watched Casey leave the room again, and she read through the letters. “Oh god, she’s right. He wrote down every time she left her apartment! What the hell…”
Olivia had come across the part of the letter that she had never seen in any other letter before. Whoever was stalking Casey had written down exactly what he planned on doing to her, except for when. “How stupid is this guy? Rather, how stupid am I being! He knows where she lives. I need to get her out of here.”
Olivia got up from the couch and walked down the hall in the direction she had seen Casey walk a while earlier. “She’s been in there a while…” She knocked on the door. “Casey?” She heard a muffled sob through the door, and twisted the knob. She saw Casey sitting on the bed, head in her hands, similar to the way she had sound her Casey’s first day on the job. Olivia went over to her once again and pulled her into another hug. “I’m sorry, I really need to pull myself together, I need to be, I need…” But Casey couldn’t finish her sentence, and she just held on to Olivia that much tighter “Casey, oh, Casey. We’re going to catch him, we will, we will. But listen to me. I think it would be best if you stayed at a relative’s until we do.”
Casey reluctantly pulled out of the hug, with a pained look on her face.
“The only family I have lives in Boston, what would I do about…” Olivia knew how much it meant to Casey to prosecute the SVU cases, so she made a suggestion she hoped Casey would take.
“You’ll stay with me then. That was, I can keep an eye on you myself.”
”You really don’t have to Olivia, I can find a hotel or something…”
“You’ll do no such thing. Look Casey, its fine. We’ll both feel better this way.”
“Alright, I owe you big time Olivia.”
Olivia smiled. “Well, there is still that list of high school girls… Really, don’t worry about it Casey. Gather up some clothes and whatever else you need. I’m going to call Elliot and tell him to meet us at the precinct,”
Casey nodded and went about as she was told. Olivia called Elliot and told him to meet them at the precinct, and gave him a brief summary of what happened. “Sh*t. I’ll be right there.”
Olivia flipped her cell phone closed. Her mind wandered to Casey. She wondered how long she had tried to keep this inside her. “Poor thing, she’s so determined to keep up the appearance on the outside. This must have been tearing her up inside.”
Chapter 4
Casey gathered up all the necessary things that she needed and met Olivia in her living room. With a small nod to Olivia, they left her apartment and traveled to the precinct. Obviously, Elliot had called everyone else, because when she arrived with Olivia to the precinct, they were waiting for them. Elliot walked up to them and gave Casey a reassuring pat on the back. “We are going to get this guy Casey. No one tries to hurt one of our own and get away with it.”
Casey nodded and gave him a small smile. Cragen stepped out of his office and summoned Casey into his office. “I know that everything is happening quickly tonight counselor, but do you have arrangements to stay with someone else, for now?”
“Uh, yeah. Olivia has offered to let me stay with her.”
“Then I assure you, you will be well taken care of.”
“I know Captain. Thank you.”
Casey walked out of his office and right back to Olivia. She turned to give Casey a warm smile. “You ready? There isn’t much more that we can do tonight except get some rest.”
“Yeah, I’m all set.”
“Let’s get going then. See you guys in the morning.”
Casey and Olivia walked out the door, and Olivia hailed a taxi. “Come on. You look absolutely exhausted.”
Casey nodded for what seemed like the millionth time that night, and got into the taxi. “Thank you Olivia…”
Chapter 5 Olivia and Casey arrived at the apartment building, and Olivia helped Casey take her bags upstairs. Olivia unlocked the door to her apartment and let them both in. “Well, Casey, this is home sweet home.”
Casey smiled. “It looks like you put a lot of work into this place. Very warm and inviting.”
“Thanks. Here, you can take your stuff in here, bedroom is this way…”
Casey got a puzzled look on her face. “Wait, I wasn’t thinking about this before, where are you going to sleep?”
“Couch.:”
“Aw jeez Olivia, I don’t want to kick you out of your own bedroom. I’ll take the couch, unless…”
Olivia could tell by the sheepish look on Casey’s face, and the way she was turning beet red, what she was suggesting. “You know, just so that neither of us will be alone, and---“
Olivia put up a hand to stop Casey, glad that she had proposed the idea. The closer she was, the better she could watch over her. “Casey, that’s fine. You don’t have to explain. I’d be happy to keep you company anyway.”
Casey smiled, an actual smile, sheepish as it was. “Thanks Olivia, you are a real lifesaver.”
Olivia gestured toward the bedroom. “So I was saying, bedroom is that way… I’ll wait while you get changed.”
Casey picked up her bags and made her way down the hall and into the bedroom, shutting the door behind her. Olivia paced around her living room waiting for Casey to be finished. Her mind wandered again to Alex, just as it had earlier in the night. She looked around her apartment at the pictures she had of her and the blonde. They did everything together. She missed her so much. But, it looked like there was a new relationship forming, and Olivia had a feeling that whatever happened, she would at least have a new friend. Olivia was so lost in thought, that she didn’t notice Casey come out of the bedroom and follow her gaze to the pictures. “Is that Alex Cabot?”
Olivia jumped a little at the unexpected voice, but smiled anyway. “Yeah, that’s Alex.”
Casey looked around at all the different pictures Olivia had. “Wow, it looks like you two were awfully close.”
Olivia noticed Casey’s smile falter a bit, and motioned her to sit on the couch. “It kinda came with being the only two women on the squad, even though Alex wasn’t a cop. I could talk about stuff with her that I couldn’t really talk about with Elliot.”
Olivia looked over at Casey. “And as much as I miss her, there’s always new relationships to form.”
Olivia saw Casey blush a little. “I cant thank you enough Olivia, for being my friend. I don’t think I would be able to do this alone.”
“No one should have to do this alone.”
Olivia got up from the couch, and turned around to help Casey up. “Come on, let’s go to bed. When was the last time you got uninterrupted sleep?”
Casey avoided Olivia’s gaze, looking at the floor again. “I don’t really know. I’ve been getting nightmares, from the letters…”
Olivia nodded. “In that case let’s go. SVU ADA’s need their sleep.”
They walked down the hall to the bedroom, and Olivia realized that she had forgotten to make her bed that morning. “Shoot, I totally forgot about that, I overslept this morning.”
Casey shook her head. “Don’t worry about it. I didn’t think you noticed, but mine wasn’t made either.” She laughed a little. “I guess we have something in common.”
Olivia laughed, shaking her head. “I guess we do. Come on, its late.”
They both climbed into bed, and Olivia turned off the light on the nightstand next to her. “Night, Casey.”
“Goodnight, Olivia. Thank you.”
Chapter 6
Olivia awoke to darkness, wondering why in the world she was going so. She usually slept pretty much through the night. Then she realized why. “No, no, let go of me! Get away, get away! Help me1 Olivia, help me!”
Olivia quickly flipped over and saw Casey thrashing wildly.
“No! No! Olivia!”
Olivia tried to grab hold of Casey’s arms so that she wouldn’t get hit. She was unsuccessful though, and Casey hit her right across the face,
“Casey! Casey! Wake up sweetie, wake up!”
Casey woke with a gasp, sitting straight up in the bed, trying to catch her breath, tears streaming down her cheeks for the third time that night. For the third time, Olivia pulled Casey into a hug.
“Oh god Olivia, I’m so sorry, its never been that bad before, he was… he was doing the things he said in the letter. Oh, it was so horrible…”
Olivia hugged her tighter. “Don’t worry about it, that is what I’m here for.”
Casey calmed down quicker than she had the first two times and looked up at Olivia.
“Oh Olivia, you’re bleeding! Did I hit you?”
Olivia raised a hand to her lip, and found that it was indeed bleeding. “Well, kinda, but I think I may have just bitten down on it by accident.”
Casey got up out of the bed, and turned to Olivia. “Where do you keep your washcloths? We should get that cleaned up.”
Olivia started to get up, but Casey motioned for her to stay put. “No, stay there. I’ve disturbed you enough tonight, the least I can do is help you clean that up.”
“Ok, ok. In the closet in the bathroom.”
Casey left the room, and Olivia heard the water running a few moments later. Casey came back into the room, going to Olivia’s side of the bed.
“Here, I think I can see where I got you.”
She sat down on the bed and put the washcloth where the blood was originating on Olivia’s lip. She slipped her hand behind Olivia’s head. “ I have to put a little pressure on it,” she explained.
“Kay,” came the muffled response from Olivia.
They sat there until Casey was satisfied that Olivia’s lip had stopped bleeding.
“Ok, the bleeding has stopped. I’m real sorry about that, you’re going to have a nice mark there in the morning.” Olivia took the washcloth from Casey’s hand and put it in her hamper. She came back into the bedroom and looked at the clock.
“One AM. I can see why you look so tired. Come on, back to sleep with you.” Casey smiled a little at the way Olivia was trying to shoo her back into bed.
“Olivia, can I ask you something real quick?” Olivia nodded, getting back into her side of the bed. “When you were trying to wake me up, did you call me sweetie? I could hear you…”
Now it was Olivia’s turn to blush. Casey sat down and looked at her.
“I mean if you did, that’s ok, I don’t mind or anything.”
Olivia nodded. “Yeah, I did.”
Casey could hardly contain her smile. “Thanks.” She settled down onto the pillow and fell asleep. Olivia stayed awake for a few minutes, staring off into space. She hadn’t thought about saying sweetie, it had just kinda come out. She smiled, then turned toward Casey and fell asleep.

Chapter 7
Casey woke up, this time to an alarm clock. She opened her eyes and saw that Olivia was awake, and watching her.
“Good morning.”
Olivia jumped about a mile, not expecting Casey to begin talking.
“Casey! I was… I mean… it… Do you want some breakfast?”
Casey was about to tell Olivia that she didn’t have to give her breakfast too, when her stomach rumbled.
“I guess I can take that as a yes. I think I have some bagels in the kitchen.”
Casey nodded, and they both got up and headed toward the kitchen. Olivia went over to the Mr. Coffee sitting on her counter, and she tossed Casey the bagels.
“Would you mind taking out a couple and putting them in the toaster? I’ll get the coffee started.”
Casey opened the bag and took out two bagels. “Sure, no problem.”
They both set to work, and Olivia unconsciously began humming the song that was stuck in her head.
“I’ll be standing at the edge of the earth, hoping that one day you’ll come back again.”
Olivia looked up, surprised to hear Casey sing, but she had such a beautiful voice, that Olivia joined her.
“I’ll be standing at the edge of the earth, hoping that someday you’ll come back to me. I’ll be praying for whatever it’s worth, believing that one day you’ll come back to me, I’ll be standing at the edge of the earth hoping for someday.”
Casey looked up and smiled, and continued singing while she was waiting for the bagels to pop out of the toaster. Just as they were finishing the song, the bagels popped out of the toaster. Both Olivia and Casey looked at each other and began to laugh. Casey walked over to the refrigerator and opened the door, searching for something.
“Second shelf, on the right.”
Casey looked over and picked up the cream cheese, exactly what she was looking for. She looked over at Olivia, who shrugged.
“I had a hunch.”
Casey shook her head an proceeded to spread a generous amount of cream cheese on her bagel.
“Do you…”
“Yup, sure. As much as you have.” Olivia poured a cup of coffee for herself and Casey. “Cream, sugar?”
Casey shook her head, stuffing a ton of bagel into her mouth.
“Blaff is fime…”
“What?”
Casey swallowed the bagel. “Black is fine. Thanks.” Taking the coffee from Olivia, she noticed that Olivia’s lip had a big red welt on the side of it.
“Oh, I hit you hard, didn’t I?”
Olivia lifted her hand to her lip. “Oh well, that’s ok. It doesn’t hurt.”
Casey went over to Olivia and tilted her head so that she could see the welt clearly. “It looks like its healing over alright, it shouldn’t be there more than a few days.” Realizing what she was doing, Casey let her hand drop to her side, and returned to her coffee. Olivia cleared her throat, not sure how to respond.
“Uh, did you sleep ok the rest of the night?”
Casey nodded, smiling. “I can’t thank you enough. I’m sorry for the little…disturbance.”
Olivia shook her head. “No apologies necessary.” She looked at the clock in her kitchen. “We’d better get going. We want to get started as soon as possible.”
Casey also looked at the clock. “Oh, shoot. I have arraignment this morning. I completely forgot!”
Olivia smiled. “Well, you already know where the washcloths are, why don’t you get ready and I’ll actually make my bed today.”
Casey laughed. “You do that.”
She went off down the hall to the bedroom where she had left her clothes. Olivia finished her breakfast and headed to her bedroom as well, remembering on her way by the bathroom to remind Casey to feel free to use the soap.
“Thanks. I didn’t remember to bring mine.”
Olivia got her own clothes ready for when Casey was done. When Casey emerged, Olivia went in. Olivia took her shower, and the two of them went down the stairs to begin another day.

Chapter 8
Olivia had the cabbie drop Casey off at the court house first, but not before making sure that she had her cell phone on and Olivia’s number written down. Olivia rode to the precinct in silence, giving the cabbie a tip and going up the precinct stairs.
“Good morning Olivia. Did everything go alright last night.”
“Morning Captain. Everything went fine. She’s still a little shaken, I don’t blame her. I trust you read the letters.”
Cragen nodded. “Yeah, I read the letters. I have to say, I’ve never seen anything like that in my life. I don’t know how people come up with one perverted idea after the next. I sent them over the lab to see if there were any prints. Hopefully, there will be.”
Just then, Olivia’s cell phone rang. “Benson.” She listened for a minute, then flipped the phone closed. “ I gotta run, new case.”
Olivia went to the scene, and interviewed the victim. The case was easier than others, though, because the perp left his DNA, and it was on file. The case took up the whole, day, and Olivia found that it was actually the end of her shift. With no word on the letters, she left the precinct and hailed a cab to Casey’s office. She knocked on the door, and hearing a “Come in” from Casey, she opened the door.
“Good evening Counselor.”
Casey looked up and smiled. “Good evening Detective. I’m just finishing up this paper work, then I’ll treat you to dinner?”
Olivia nodded. “Alright, you have me convinced.” Just then, Olivia’s cell phone rang. “Benson.” Olivia paused, listening to the voice on the other end of the phone. “Alright, we’ll be right there.”
Casey gave Olivia a quizzical look. “Little detour on the way to dinner. Lab says they got something from the letters.”
“Oh. Um, ok. I’m almost done.”
Olivia sensed that Casey was uncomfortable. “Listen Casey, if you want me to go in myself, I can do that…” But Casey cut her off.
“No, that’s ok. I should be there.”
Olivia nodded in understanding, and sat looking around Casey’s office waiting for her to finish up her paper work.
“Hey Casey,” Olivia questioned as Casey began putting papers in her briefcase, “you wouldn’t happen to like baseball, would you? You have a lot of mementos in here.”
Casey smiled. “Yes, DETECTIVE, I happen to love baseball. I’ve been playing softball since I was a little girl. We’ll have to get you on the cop’s team.”
Olivia laughed like it was the funniest joke she had ever heard. “We’ll see Casey, we’ll see,” she managed to get out in between laughing fits.
The two women walked out the door, catching a cab at the corner. Casey had been talking about all the different positions there were in softball when she suddenly changed the subject. “Hey, before we head over to the lab, would you mind if we stopped at your place first? I’d really like to get out of my heels. They’re wicked.”
Olivia chuckled. “Sure. I know what you mean. I only wear them when I have to. Which isn’t often.” She gave the cabbie her address, and they rode to her apartment, sharing stories about their bad experiences with heels. They climbed the stairs, laughing. Olivia took out her keys, and unlocked her apartment door. But as the door swung open, they both stopped laughing. They stared in horror inside Olivia’s apartment, in particular at the banner that was now hanging across the trashed living room.
“YOU CAN’T HIDE FROM ME CASEY NOVAK”
Chapter 9
“Ok, here’s what happened. We came in, I unlocked my door. When I opened it, we found… that.”
Olivia was trying to explain to Elliot what had happened. She was feeling sick to her stomach. Not so much that the guy broke into her apartment, but that this guy wasn’t going to give up until he got to Casey. And emotionally, he was doing a good job. Casey was sitting on a bench in the hallway, waiting for Olivia to finish up. She was staring off into space, holding a cup of coffee in her hands that she hadn’t taken a drink of. Elliot noticed that Olivia was watching her.
“Get Casey. We’ll go to the precinct where it’s quiet. You guys can crash there, until we find someplace for you.”
Olivia gave Elliot a small smile. “Thanks. She’s been really shaken up by this. We need to get this case solved.”
Elliot nodded. “Come on. We need to get her outta here.”
Olivia walked over to Casey and sat down on the bench next to her. “Listen Casey… we should head down to the precinct, they need to finish up here, we can sit down and talk. Casey?”
Casey sat next to Olivia, unresponsive. Eventually, she nodded, but it was so small that Olivia almost missed it. Olivia helped Casey up and led her out to the car. She sat down in the back with her, until they got to the precinct. They went inside, and Olivia slowly led Casey to her desk.
“Here, why don’t you stay here a minute, I’ll be right back.”
Olivia went over to Elliot, who was still standing at the door.
“Let me know if you find ANYTHING.” Olivia snapped her fingers, remembering the call from the lab. “The lab called too Elliot, could you maybe send someone over to see what it was?”
Elliot nodded. “I’ll take care of it myself.” He looked over at Casey, then back at Olivia. “You really care about her, don’t you?”
Olivia stared at him, then back at Casey, who had resumed looking at the floor. “Yeah, I do. She’s hurting, El.”
Elliot nodded. “We’re not going to stop until we make the hurt go away.”
Olivia smiled at him. “Thanks so much El.”
“What are partners for?
Elliot left the precinct to go back to the crime scene, and Olivia walked back over to Casey, thinking about what she was going to say to Casey. But Casey beat her to the punch.
“Olivia, I am so sorry I dragged you into this.”
Olivia got to her knees so that she could look into Casey’s eyes.
“Listen to me Casey. You did not drag me into this. Someone is causing you pain, and I am not going to stop until we get him, no matter what.”
Casey looked up at Olivia, tears in her eyes, but not falling. “You mean it?”
Olivia pulled Casey into a hug, something she was getting very used to.
“Always, Case, always.”
Olivia gave Casey a squeeze and let go.
“Hey, we never got dinner. You really should eat a little something. How about we run across the street and grab a pretzel from the vendor. Just to keep our stomachs from rumbling. I have a feeling you are not overly hungry.”
Casey got up, placing her coffee on Olivia’s desk. “No, I guess I’m not. But a pretzel sounds good. “
Olivia took Casey’s hand and they walked over to the vendor across the street from the precinct. To her surprise, Casey didn’t pull away. Olivia insisted that she pay for them, despite Casey’s protests.
“I’ll let you treat for dinner tomorrow, I promise.”
They walked back across the street, and Olivia switched her pretzel over to her other hand so that she could hold Casey’s hand again. In Olivia’s head it seemed a little silly, but she didn’t know that Casey was mentally thanking Olivia for being there when she needed her most.
Chapter 10
The pair finished their snack and reentered the squad room. Casey tried, unsuccessfully, to stifle a yawn.
“The crib is this way. They aren’t the best mattresses in the world, but you can get some rest. I’ll stay for a while if you like, I could use a nap myself.”
Casey nodded, glad that Olivia was planning on staying, without her having to ask. She was afraid she was starting to sound awfully clingy.
“ A nap does sound nice. Which way?”
Olivia led the way to the crib, and watched Casey as she sit down on one of the mattresses. “Wow, you weren’t kidding, these mattresses are horrible.”
Olivia couldn’t help but laugh as Casey began to bounce up and down on the mattress, trying to find a suitable spot to lie on. Finding one, she snuggled into it and closed her eyes. Olivia sat down on the bed next to the one Casey was lying on, admiring her for finding the humor even though she was in so much pain. Her thoughts were interrupted as she heard Casey muttering something.
“Olivia?” Casey was fast drifting off to sleep, but Olivia heard her loud and clear. “Could you… would you… come over here until I fall asleep? I know it sounds strange, but I really don’t want to fall asleep alone.”
Olivia’s admiration for Casey only grew, because she realized that although Casey could avoid the subject, she was also dealing with it, to an extent, admitting that she didn’t want to be alone. Olivia had to comply with her request.
“Sure Casey. I’ll stay as long as you want.”
Olivia sat herself next to Casey. It was a tight fit, but Olivia was that much less worried as she drifted off to sleep. Next to her, Casey smiled as her exhaustion got the best of her.
An hour later, Elliot reentered the precinct looking for Olivia and Casey. When he couldn’t find them in the squad room, he was hoping that they took his advice and had crashed in the crib. He made his way to the room, and poked his head in. He saw Olivia sleeping sitting up, and Casey sleeping beside her. Elliot smiled, glad that Olivia was finally opening up to someone. He knew that Olivia had been a little lost since Alex had gone into Witness Protection. Trying not to disturb them, he closed the door and walked back to the squad room.
