An abused foster child leads the detectives to re-open a cold rape case. Luke Perry, Julie Bowen, Sara Gilbert guest star.
Also, a side note that we meet Michaela McManus's new character, ADA Kim Greylek.

I'm worried with all these guest stars. Why not get some equally good talent that nobody has heard of, and let people focus on the storyline? Was anybody really focusing on the storyline during the episode that Robin Williams guest starred in? (Note that I can't even remember the name of the episode, but I know who the guest star was!)

Well said, Trublu and I agree. I have said to anyone who would listen that they should drop the guest stars and return to the original format and SVU cases.

They just use the guest stars to get higher ratings is all.

Yes, that is true shawdowhunter, but this show built its high ratings on an emsemble cast and great stories and writing in the earlier seasons (1-6) IMO.
The show then changed it's fundamental premise and now is trying to to get back the great ratings with guest stars. I don't think it will work.

I thought last night's episode was good. I liked the fact that they focused on what happened to Olivia from the previous season. The new DA seems good too. I think I'm gonna like her. The only problem I had was all the guest appearances. Like Mary Beth Evans, who played the doctor who was doing the drug testing. They hardly showed her, yet she appeared in the opening credits when the show apppeared. I just don't see how showing all these guest appearances will save the ratings. The show needs to return to powerful stories.

Boy is it good to have new episodes of SVU on again! ;D I thought the episode was great... did see Luke Perry as the bad guy though, that was no suprise. I'm glad they did not think we'd forget what happened to Olivia... I'm glad they are making that in this season, too... getting her some therepy for it... I like how she connected with Sara Gilbert's character... both sleeping on the couch, "do you need the tv on, too?" Glad Fin is not going anywhere... guess he shouldn't have accepted the calls from his co-worker's ex wife, huh? LOL. I also like when Munch asked the Capt. if he wanted to buy into the bar & the Capt. said, "Let me just go ask the people at my AA meeting first". To funny... he asks a recovering alcoholic to buy into a bar... duh! Classic Munch! Elliot was not as good as he usually is... distracted by the credit card thing, I didn't feel he was in the case as much as he usually is. And to have it be his daughter... oh boy... trouble at home tonight! As for the new ADA... she's ok... I'll have to keep my eye on her... she has big shoes to fill, so we'll see. I did like her last night, just not sure how well she will mesh with the rest of the characters yet. All in all, good episode, can't wait until next week!

Last night seemed like a night of "really, again?" As in, I felt like I was watching a mish-mash of previous episodes made into one. Repetition does not good television make.
1. The Olivia Fiasco (that's what I'm officially dubbing it, and will in the future refer to it as such). I get that she was attacked and almost raped, I really do. I understand, I feel for Olivia, and I understand that they weren't just going to add this in and then (once again) make like the viewers are stupid and assume we would forget about it. I'm all for the continuation of the storyline -- so long as we're not getting scene after scene after scene of Olivia working through her inner demons, and of flashbacks. If that is all this storyline is going to be, then please, spare us. It also can't be Olivia quitting the squad- again - because twice is almost two times too many. Keep it subtle.
2. Elliot's identity crisis- not really a "really, again?" moment, but what in the world was that mess doing in last night's episode? Why should I care that Elliot got his credit card stolen and whines about it throughout the entire episode? Honestly, he came across as a rather large five year old to me. If they really wanted this storyline to happen, again subtlety would have done wonders. Elliot has his identity stolen at the beginning of the episode, he gets one phone call (and makes none) about it, and in the end Kathleen comes in and the storyline still works magically. (Well not magically, but the same end effect that they apparently wanted is achieved). If Elliot is going to become a mentally angry and unstable basket case again, I don't know if I can handle it. I looks like next week he is going to get kicked out of the squad (again) and is going to have problems with Kathleen (again) and probably make people madder than hell (again).
3. Of course Fin isn't getting transferred. But why did he have to be partnered with Elliot? Why couldn't he go out with Munch? (Perhaps because they made the mistake of writing used-to-be partners with a bum knee and an age disadvantage, but this is TV and besides the point.) I don't see why Fin has to be forced with Elliot when there is a perfectly available character that is entirely underused as it is. Also, why do we have to smear Fin, again? I took the statement between him and the captain to mean that the wife made unwanted advances, but some of you (and I can see why) took it to mean Fin was a little naughty, and he really doesn't need that.
4. Poor Kim Greylek. It's like they want everyone to hate every ADA from the get go. Anybody remember that this was pretty much Casey Novak's entrance, only with more gorgeous red hair? Basically the exact same thing actually, with Kim/Casey pushing their way into a situation where they clearly aren't wanted, and them wanting to be hands on and the detectives unnecessarily rejecting them. It's like they don't want us to have any warm fuzzy feelings about anybody besides Elliot and Olivia. Where did my beloved ensemble cast go? I even wanted to hate Kim for a few minutes, because of just how negatively she was portrayed (I don't hate her of course, because I love pretty much any ADA that they put on this show.) And my momentary slip quickly turned into disdain for the writers, again. I even cheered her at one point, because I was wishing so desperately that she would be the disciplining mother who would handle all the five year olds. Would it really hurt so badly to introduce or write out an ADA in a positive manner? Plus, SVU should have learned by now. Play nice with the ADA. The hate crime statute is an interesting twist, but I have a sinking feeling it is only going to cause problems.
5. And a true indication of the times is that my very last comment is actually about the plot of the episode. As in, what should have been plot but was actually ignored for all this other nonsense. I don't even remember why half the stuff was connected the way it was. I truly felt that this episode was a sloppy mess. They jumped from a kid being abused to a kid not being abused, to a kid being abused at a drug testing facility that lasted for about 5 seconds, to a rape, to multiple rapes... I'm not even sure who they arrested or why. Honestly, there are no names and no explanations in my mind.
And one final thought: Who thought that the line inviting Captain Cragen to the bar was a good idea? It made no sense- they all know he's a recovering alcoholic, give me a break.

The episode was decent, as a season premiere they could have done much better in my opinion. No closure on anything from the finale which I hated. When the new ADA came in I thought everyone would be shocked when she introduced herself since we never saw the squad informed.
I agree with Tru on the Liv thing. Not to downplay rape victims but I'm with ya on the whole "again?" thing.
Not sure what to say about El, he's been a loose cannon for a while. Guess we'll wait and see.
I didn't think Fin was going anywhere. I was actually happy to see him with El, but was kinda hoping for some more "patch work" with Fin and El here. I like El but I would have liked to see Fin let him have it, verbally.
