I enjoyed this ep. Everyone was included in it and it felt like an old epispode of SVU. It had my attention from the beginning and I recognized Blake. Thats Daniella Sea from the L word. Major cuteness Kim got my mom mad. She was like "oh no. I dont like her. I miss Casey." So do I But Overall I give this ep an 8 out 10.

Not a bad episode at all, I actually liked it! ;D
There was a lot more Haung in this episode then it had been for the last, what, 4 episodes he's been on so far? Good to see. I love the Munch & Fin partnership too although it seemed to be very brief but I'm glad they were there more. Kim didn't bug me in this episode as much so that's an improvement on her part.
I really liked that scene between Elliot and Hailie(sp?) when she asked him what he would do if his son came home in a dress. That was a good answer on Elliot's part, something I hope to be if my kid turns out (I don't have any kids, I should note).

It was great seeing Huang, and I think Munch might have glistened by at some point. My two gripes: 1. Anyone else notice that the GLBTQ characters are always, always, always the criminals? First they implicate Haylie (played by a boy, Bridger Zadina, btw, very nice performance), and then the guidance counselor (whose name I cannot remember at the moment). It's never a straight person (who commits a crime) in an episode with a GLBTQ character. Disappointing, yet again. You might all remember the last (and only other) episode with a transgender character, Fallacy. And if you do, you remember what kind of treatment that character got, too. 2. Kim. Oy. It's like the writers want us to hate her character. No emotions, no complex thought... are we sure she isn't a robot? I nearly pitched a fit at the scene at the courthouse when Mark is trying to convince her to drop the charges, and she comes across as so impersonal, and then on top of it remarks, "oh no, you two again?" to the detectives she's supposed to be working with. What a mess. Thought Olivia's response "you're new here" struck me as well, as either being massively out of order, or else massively insensitive to the 13 episodes she's already been in. Yikes. Random 3rd point. Olivia and Elliot seemed too uncomfortable with Haylie as a transgendered person. Don't know why, but there definitely wasn't a good vibe going on there. Would have thought they would have been a little more accepting than that.

I liked the episode - I was surprised I actully liked it. I agree with alot of you on several points.
1. "It had my attention from the beginning and I recognized Blake. Thats Daniella Sea from the L word. Major cuteness "
I agree. Cuteness in all it's glory. lol. Although on the L Word, I wish 'Max' would shave that damn beard. That's just me.
2. "I really liked that scene between Elliot and Hailie(sp?) when she asked him what he would do if his son came home in a dress. That was a good answer on Elliot's part..."
Normally this sorta thing is reserved for Olivia - you know, the whole connecting with a victim. But it was really good to see this side of Elliot.
3. Trublu, I agree with you with 1 & 2. You never see any GLBTQ characters being the 'good guy'. They're supposed to raise awarness for a lot of issues, but the PTB always seem to screw this one up. And it seriously bugs me. A lot of people get this twisted idea of GLBTQ through tv because of episodes like this and I think it's absolutly wrong for a show like SVU to alienate a particular group of people.
As for Kiim...I liked how Olivia said, " You're new here..." can't remember the rest, but I loved the look on Kim's face. I think Olivia had enough (like the rest of us) of Kim lack of emotion regarding sensitive cases like these. Kim reminds me alot of Serena Southerlyn - very robotic in character - very monotone kinda voice - very annoying.
That's my two cents...

the ep was ok but as little predictable! i figured that the GC was a dude! i figured that they would go after the BF! oh well! i thought it was a good ep in that everyone was in on it SVU wise and that the beginning reminded me of control (one of my faves)!

At the beginning when they first talked with the guidance officer and she told about the things that had happened in the school and how they were handled, I thought 'wow..that's.. understanding and supporting'. Concidering the issue and how close minded and scared by their prejudices people usually are when it comes to trans. The trial explained a lot. It wasn't actually so surprising to hear why the GC was so much into Hailey's situation.
More episodes like this please!!

Well as seems to be my misfortune lately I fell asleep before the episode concluded but I will say this. I enjoyed seeing more of Huang and yet I still don't quite understand transgender but want to learn more.
I also agree with you Trublu, it seems like the character that isn't straight seems to be the one treated unfairly. I have been of the opinion that more crime is committed by straights than by gays, lesbians or transgenders. Maybe I am reading the wrong statistics but I believe that is the case.
Loved seeing Munch with Fin even if not as much as I would like.
I will need to see the end to fully review this.

I can answer most transgender questions, if anyone has them (let's not make this the transgender thread, though). TV shows show a disproportionate percentage of the GLBTQ community as criminals, that is true.

I really enjoyed this episode. I think it was a good look into GLBTQ "lifestyle".
I can agree with the always the criminal but I also think that it showed the true approach in real life and peoples predetermined thoughts on someone who is "different" so I honestly don't consider it a stretch. Not that it is right. But to an extent realistic.
I am going to disagree somewhat on the El/Liv thing, I think dealing with Hailey really opened up El's eyes and made him think and he did show some compassion. And again, not right but some people have difficulty dealing with those who are different from them. I am personally an open minded person but I have also had many friends with alternative lifestyles and when you are not exposed it may seem "strange" until you open your mind to accept and understand.
I don't think the characters were necessarily portrayed as bad, honestly one "confessed" and the other WAS the criminal, and she was a suspect before her true identity was known. I don't think I could have found her not guilty but psychologically I can understand her frustration. I can only imagine what someone like the 2 characters go through in a lifetime. I could definitely sympathize.
And yes, BRAVO to Bridger on a job well done on this character!

I don't think Olivia should've been the one to show compassion, especially for the one who does not have kids. Elliot does have kids and Hailey directly asked him what would he do. Her father was having adjustment troubles, not her mother. If it had been vice versa (mother having troubles, dad excepting it) then I'm sure Haylie would have directed that question to Olivia. Elliot was perfect for the scene.

I agree mad4svu and we don't see a compassionate El enough. That was definitely a good scene for his character.
