Hello everyone :flower: Here it is finally!!! I just finished the epilogue :yahoo: I hope you'll like it as much as the rest :winky:
I'd like to thank you all for reading and giving such a fantastic feedback!! It gave me wings to write when I was down and the wish to give the best of me...you're awsome :yahoo:
Finaddict : I totally understand you, i was so afraid when I first started to write, I'm not coming from a literal education and it took me long to find the guts to take the plunge. Writing is a passion for me and I hope one day it could become more than that. Hey why don't you write a story that would take place in a nursing home. It's the best way to start, write about something you know! Well thank you for all your kind words and for reading :flower:
Epilogue
The insistent ring of the alarm clock echoed in the bedroom, desperately calling for the sleeping body to rise and shine. But after a good five minutes of electronic cacophony, it became pretty clear that ‘shine’ wasn’t about to happen as a low grumble came out from under the covers. Painfully emerging from a dreamless slumber, Detective Benson shook away the sheets from her aching body, cursing under her breath as she slammed the alarm shut. What the hell had happened to leave her in such a state of grogginess? Her head was fuzzy and she fought to remember yesterday’s events. “Oh God!” She exclaimed suddenly as she jumped from her bed forgetting all about her pain. Barging in the bathroom she stopped just before reaching her goal, closing her eyes she took the next couple of steps and turned to her right. Taking a deep breath she opened her eyelids apprehensively. She felt a wave of relief wash over her as she studied the reflection of her long fingers tracing the outlines of her mouth, nose and eyes. “I’m me again” she felt ecstatic as a huge grin engulfed her whole face.
A thought invaded her mind then, had it been real or only a crazy dream. She could not be sure, it had seemed so real but now the morning after, the idea felt so ridiculous that she was having some doubts. There was only one way to be totally sure she decided, she had to see Elliot, he would probably laugh at her for even mentioning this incredible adventure but she had no other choice. Grabbing a quick shower she dressed in a record time, nearly forgetting to put on her shoes before rushing out. There was no way she could wait for a taxi so she went directly to her car, making her tires screech alarmingly as she took off.
At the 1-6 precinct, another detective was currently engrossed in a very unfamiliar activity, staring at his recovered body in the restrooms mirror. Wow! Did it really happen? He thought with wonder. Remembering last night conversation with his wife, he really hoped this whole craziness had been real. He was feeling a bit uncanny, his muscles were aching like if he had run a marathon, not that he knew how it felt though, this was more of an Olivia thing. Olivia! He thought suddenly she’s the only one who could tell me if it really happened. I hope she doesn’t call the men in white afterwards but I have to ask her about all this. As hard as it felt to finally let go of his new found reflection he turned away from the welcome relief and walked back toward the squad room. It was still dawn and no one was here yet, he thanked God for this moment of privacy, and as he sat in his chair he grabbed the phone to call his partner. He didn’t have the time to compose two digits that said partner flew open the doors with a bang. Startled by this unexpected appearance he jumped from his seat bringing his right hand to his chest. “Do you want to give me a heart attack Olivia, gosh what’s up with you?”
Brushing off his comment she went directly for the kill “Did it happen?” she asked slightly out of breath.
“Uh?” was his only reaction after such a surprising entrance.
“You know what I’m talking about Elliot, please read on my lips…Did.It.Happen?” she mouthed liked if she was addressing to a three years old. She didn’t want to explain the whole story and somehow she guessed that if he knew what she was talking about he would not need more than this three words to get the hint.
“You mean the ‘eerie-lights-by-the-way-we’re-Adam-and-Eve-don’t-worry-you’re-just-switching-bodies’ experience, yeah I guess!” he smirked at a somewhat relieved Olivia “by the way, congratulations you’re really in a good shape” he winked for good measure. Seeing the look of sudden horror appear on her face, he laughed before reassuring “don’t worry, I didn’t do anything you could be ashamed of while I was ‘you’”.
“You’re such a jerk” she grinned shaking her head.
“I know” he assured with mock pride. “So tell me, what happened yesterday?” he was curious to learn about her revelation.
“What tells you something occurred?” she said, sporting a mischievous smile that was clearly in contradiction with the underlined statement in her question.
“Spill” he ordered good-naturedly.
“Only if you do it first” she countered.
Forty five minutes later both partners were sitting facing each other, a look of amazement plastered on their faces, hardly believing the recollections they had just shared.
“Wow” exclaimed Elliot “who would have guessed”.
“Not me that’s for sure” she affirmed with some diehard traces of incredulity.
“And you hit on her while you were me” he was more amused than reproachful.
“Well I didn’t notice until she mentioned it, but don’t worry I gave her the ‘sensitive-guy-I’m-under-of-a-lot-of-pressure-lately’ excuse” she smirked.
“And she bought it” it was his turn to look incredulous.
“Yeah I think so” she was nearly sure, nearly!
“You think so?” he frowned at her.
“Well she would never say anything to Kathy anyway if that’s what you’re wondering!”
“Well I sure hope so, Kat and I are getting on the right track, and I don’t want Novak to ruin it all” he smiled softly at the mention of his wife.
“You mean Kat and ‘I’ are getting on the right track” she giggle pointing at herself while emphasizing on the ‘I’.
“Very funny Benson” he retorted rolling his eyes. “By the way Kathy is ‘very’ grateful for the comfort you brought her last night” he added suddenly feeling impishly playful.
“Oh no, you didn’t!” she exclaimed with a warning.
“What?” he asked innocently.
“God I can’t believe you” she was mortified.
“‘You’ only kissed twice” he notified with some sort of reassurance enjoying every second of this little game. It was hard to keep a straight face though; the look in Olivia’s eyes was priceless… if looks could kill! He though amused.
“You’re so dead Stabler” she seethed with a full red blush firmly in place.
“Relax partner” he chuckled “I saved your reputation before it was too late. We only hugged and I gave her the same ‘sensitive-under-pressure-girl’ excuse for my supposedly ‘flirting’ behaviour.”
She glared at him for a few seconds before relenting. “Well I guess I’m not in a position to hold a grudge” she amended with an arched eyebrow and a smirk.
“Amen sister!” he concluded.
“Goofball” she mock scolded.
“And proud of it!” they laughed as the pressure of the last 24 hours dissolved progressively through their easy banter.
“Morning sunshine” intoned a decidedly chirpy Munch as he entered the squad room “Oh what do I see? Two early birds! And in a better mood apparently.”
“Morning John” they answered with a grin.
“What put you in such a cheerful disposition?” inquired an amused Olivia.
“Well Fin and I spent an enchanting evening with two lovely ladies” he stated with a satisfied half smile.
“Lovelier than you that’s for sure” clarified Fin as he appeared behind his partner. “Hi guys” he greeted the other pair.
“Hi Fin” they saluted in return.
“So, what’s the deal? You don’t act so grumpy anymore, something special happened since yesterday?” prodded Munch with an undisguised curiosity.
“Well let say that we both had a great evening too” confided Elliot enigmatically.
“Oh I see” he gushed with mischief “well you should send them flowers. Hell, if I knew them I’ll do it myself. Those ladies should be given a medal for bringing you back from the twilight zone.”
Olivia rolled her eyes but couldn’t help the grin tearing at her mouth. “Shut up would you” she countered with good humor.
“Well the party is over” announced Cragen as he joined the small group “it’s time to work hard everyone, starting right now!” he stated with authority as he reached his office.
“Aye-Aye sir” they mock saluted giggling at their own silliness.
The day went by with a sense of normality in which Olivia and Elliot secretly rejoiced. They were thankful for the past day events, for they had been given a second chance to finally open their eyes, but they were also relieved to be themselves again. Of course the benefits of this strange experience were yet to be collected and this was entirely up to them. No more magic, no more supernatural boost, just plain old courage and determination. And that was exactly what had led Elliot in front of his house way earlier than he had ever been after a long day of work. His hands were shaking and he felt butterflies dancing in his stomach as he walked up the stairs to the front door… it’s now or never Stabler. Knocking softly he smoothed down his collar, checking his clothes for any visible imperfection, finding too many to mention he finally gave up and raised his head as the door opened to reveal a smiling Kathy.
“Detective! What are you doing here this early?” the sarcasm in her voice was tainted with mirth.
“Well I was told that in order to apologize to someone it was better if said person was actually still awake” he replied with a smirk bringing his left arm from behind his back to produce a bouquet of dark red roses.
Accepting the flowers with some hesitation, Kathy brought them to her nose and closed her eyes for an instant as the combination of perfume and emotion left her momentarily light-headed. She didn’t dare to hope, but she felt grateful for the apparent willingness of her husband to give an earnest apology.
“I know I totally messed up honey and I’ll understand if you’d already lost your faith in me but if you would only let me, I’ll do anything to make it up to you.” He hoped she would at least give him a chance to express his regrets and show how much he loved her.
She gazed at him with glittering eyes and without a word extended her hand to lead him inside their home, ready to listen, ready to forgive.
She hoped it wasn’t too late; she had left the precinct around six guessing the ADA would still be in her office at that time. She worked hard, just as hard as the detectives from the squad and maybe even more, Olivia knew it and admired her for that. This was how it had started; respect for a woman whose determination to bring justice to the victims had never wavered. Then slowly this admiration had given way to an undeniable attraction, the beauty on the outside was just as tempting as the one on the inside. The detective had been hooked and had in no way been wishing to be released. But until yesterday she had believed to be the only one feeling this way, so she had kept this secret to herself, hoping against hope that time would help her cope with this unrequited love. Everything had changed though, and now she could not close her eyes again pretending that it had been wishful thinking. Casey was no longer unreachable and this frightened her to no end. Straightening her leather jacket, she took a deep breath and knocked on the attorney’s door with a trembling fist.
“Come in” she heard from inside the office. Combing her fingers through her hair she waited for a heart beat and turned the handle before losing her nerves.
“Hey” she called softly.
“Hey yourself” Casey was standing behind her desk rummaging through a stack of legal documents and she smiled warmly as she spotted the detective in the doorframe. “Did you want anything specific” she asked nonchalantly as she selected the files she would take home with her.
You “Well I was wondering if you’d like to go and have a drink, and maybe dinner afterwards” she was fidgeting while searching for her words “you know drink, talk, eat something, talk again, drink some more, the basics.” God you’re so lame Benson, no wonder you’ve been single since… ever! She shook her head at her own inability.
Looking up from her briefcase she saw the nervousness in the detective’s demeanour and felt a lump in her throat. Is she asking what I think she’s asking?? She’s so cute when she’s nervous she smirked inwardly get a grip Novak and say something already, she’s waiting! Testing the waters with a mixture of apprehension and trepidation she asked “like …a date?”
Ok Olivia time to prove you’ve got some courage in you, you know how she feels so don’t balk now! “Uh yeah! Like a date. Is that…ok” she knew that Casey had feelings for her but she wasn’t sure the redhead was ready to take that step yet.
Breathing a sigh of relief the attorney smiled broadly “Yes… I’d love that Olivia”.
“Good” she smiled in return.
“Where are you taking me?” asked Casey with something akin to a five years’ old on Christmas Eve.
“Well there’s a nice little Italian restaurant not so far from here” she proposed amused by the excitement in Casey’s voice. God she’s so beautiful, I’ll never forgive myself for being so blind and taking so long to ask her out.
“Lead the way Detective” she announced slipping her coat on.
“Yes mam!” she answered mock formally and they laughed good-heartedly as they exited the office.
They were aware that they’ll have to come up against many obstacles along the way, that some will do everything they can to break them apart. Society and more specifically the law enforcement circles were surely not ready to give them a good reception. But in all that craziness there was one thing they were absolutely sure of… one is such a lonely number they thought as they took each others hands.
The End :flower:
I'm actually working on a new fic from which I intend to post the first chapter on this board in a few days. It will be called "Happy Halloween" and should be even more crazy than this one

I have always been more about the stories than the personal lifes of the characters but I think a balance is in order. Kathy brought stability to Elliot. I want them back together like yesterday. As for Olivia I could never picture her with any man. Casey and her seems to go well. looking forward to reading more of your fiction.
